Do you have a DSLR and a smart phone? Interested in geotagging?
I found a way to geotag (add map coordinate information) to pictures taken with my DSLR, which is something I've always wanted to be able to do. This method is very specific, and requires that you have an iPhone and use Lightroom for image editing. But if you don't use Lightroom for editing, or if you have an Android phone instead of an iPhone, I'm sure there are other alternatives. Once this is set up, it's as easy as pushing a start button at the beginning of a photography walk/bike ride/car trip, and pushing the stop button at the end. The software maps the location each picture was taken along the way. Here's a map from Smugmug showing the location of all the pictures I took on a bike ride around a local lake, followed by a link to my blog post on the subject, if you're interested. Thanks.

1. very interesting. I have long thought of
doing this with just a regular GPS which can write .gpx flies, but I have to have an XP computer to connect to my GPS(no serial port on vista yet works) and I have been lazy to get one working

maybe I should, been feeling the geocache urge again recently

thanks

or, I could join this century and get a smart phone, I guess

2. Thanks for the reply, WannaJump
This thread sank like a stone, so it's nice to see someone else with a geotagging interest.

Have you tried a DB-9-to-USB converter for Vista? I haven't used a GPS in Vista, but I have used the serial-to-USB converter for console access to network equipment and stuff like that. It seemed to work ok. Anyway, thanks for posting, and good luck should you go down one of the .gpx routes.

3. yes, I have tried them all
I have several right now... so far none have worked right... they claim to work in vista, but not in 64-bit vista (which is what I have of course) why? no one knows.
