Wishing I had a better camera,

and that the car hadn't been moving, and that it hadn't been way too cold to stop and get out of the car to take the pic...

Taken about 5am December 31st on the way to Seattle, crossing the Hood Canal Bridge. As we cleared the last curve before the bridge the moon was precisely aligned with the bridge. Having been sufficiently pleased and amazed by that scene we found it repeated as we crossed the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, with the moon beginning to set behind the tall trees. One morning, two invitations to the Moon. Wow.

1. I think you have something very special here...

It is an almost surreal picture. The symmetry of the blurry lights and the way they line up pointing at the moon is wonderful.

...the same spot I find myself in much too often these days; good camera not in hand, car moving or just too darn cold to get out

You really don't need a better camera. Given all your limitations with this you did good. If you want to improve on this type of photo you just need to learn a little more about your camera. And get a tripod.

the photo is intriguing...

there is so much to photography... I am still such a silly novice when to comes to the workings of my camera and I try to compensate with a good eye for the subject/object...

I truly understand the frustration of knowing there is a good photo in front of you and being unable to have all the tools at hand to make it perfect!


this was one of those times; playful raccoons out at night and all I had was an old camera and no tripod... could have had some fun shots, but...

You can have the best camera in the world, but if it is inconvenient to carry and you leave it home it is useless.

A little flash might have helped with the critter photo but I don't know how far away you were. Looks like a pretty 'tight' crop maybe? A tripod probably wouldn't have helped unless you could have gotten the critters to pose/freeze for you.

I have an old cell phone that is inactive. I use it for photos and the MP3 player. Took this with the cell phone. It is fixed focus and I have no idea what the technical details are. I've had to make wild guesses. It's a tad bit over-sharpened but that's what I wanted in 'developing'.



There is no limit to the knowledge base of photography. How much you want to learn really depends on the person. I'm learning new stuff almost everyday. A camera is a camera is a camera. There was a photo (I'd have to find it) that was taken about 5 years ago with a $20 Holga that sold for $27,000.

Take lots of photos. Learn from your mistakes. Ask questions. Read. And then take lots more pictures. Rinse and Repeat.

for picture taking... but the rinse and repeat was a very clever but deceptive marketing technique by shampoo giants :toast:

love the diner photo and diners in general... waited tables in a few and always had a good time
