Below is Henry Faulkner's house. Henry was William Faulkner's cousin, and very close to Tennessee Williams. Henry's house was home to a few dozen cats, and a choice selection of delicate young men. Henry was an artist and a wonderful outrageous man. Henry died doing what he loved, He was going to a party. On his way to the party he got killed by a hit and run drunk driver.

One could photograph one of those houses every day and find some thing new. That yellow one is spectacular. But then I love the dog. The leashes at crossed purposes – you photos say so much, Alfredo.

2. Thanks. The yellow house is Stella's Deli. Stella was a dog

that hung around the diner. They've gone upscale since those days.

Henry Faulkner was a big fan of my wife's music. He used to show up at her performances around town. Sometimes all he'd be wearing was a horse blanket. If the audience was inattentive he would stand up and yell, "Respect!" He was the artist/performers best friend.

Henry would stand out in his front yard and sing opera.


The dog did not like the camera one bit. That made for a much better picture.


The light was perfect yesterday.

BTW, here is one of Henry's paintings. It is of Hemmingway's home in Key West.

6. They say every picture tells a story. The neighborhood I

photographed had an influence on me. I was surrounded by artist and old money. They kept it delightfully weird. It reaffirmed the value of staying out on the fringe. There's more freedom there.

It felt good walking the streets that day. It brought back good memories of life some thirty years ago.

vanity book feature. Of course they don't call it a vanity book, but that's what it is.

8. The house with the stone, brick

and wood entrance is really interesting architecture. I love the way the door appears to be at an angle.

10. It is. It has settled a bit so the house leans to one side.

I wonder if the new owners ever got rid of the smell of cats. You can tell by the painting, he loved cats.

He also had a pet goat named Alice. She appears, sometimes cleverly hidden, in his works. Not sure if she is in the Hemmingway house painting. Henry reminded me of an old goat, especially if I was on peyote or other similar treats.

It was a tradition to get totally ripped before going to an opening of local artist. The late John Tuska could turn any opening into a wild Hunter S Thompson ether inspired romp.

Visits by the Merry Pranksters rubbed off on us I believe. They'd come into town to see Gurney Norman and Ed McClannahan. The city would vibrate in a most disturbing manner for weeks after their visit.

The 70's and 80's were a real trip.
