Lens filters, opinions needed
I am looking for a new UV filter, and possible a CPL for my 52mm. What brands give the most bang for the buck? I'm on a fixed income, so I can't spend a whole bunch for filters.

2. I've read good things about that brand. Right now I have
a 40 year old Telesar UV filter. It has a bubble near the edge,

8. Luckily that bubble is far enough to the side to have little
or no effect. It will do until an upgrade.

4. I'd also stick with B+W for the cpl

Go with the multi-coated. Unless you hit a decent scratch-off and have a spare $240 then get the Singh-Ray Gold-N-Blue, I borrowed one on a photo walk and if you are a fan of landscape photography this is one I would look into.

6. $240 will go a long way to buying a pancake lens.

5. You need to go 'Good Will Hunting'
http://www.shopgoodwill.com/listings/listByCat.asp?catID=170

I've paid $6-9 for a very so-so lens just to get the $50 hoya filter attached to it. I've also bought lenses on the cheap just to get the leather case.

I have purchased a few filters at the online site above. You need a 52mm? I'll check my filter box later tonight to see what I have. I'll buy 'lots' of filters to get a few I want but then I get others I don't need.

7. Yeah! Thanks, I can't pass up that offer.
I have a Goodwill around the corner. I do check them every week. There was a Yashinon DSM 50 there but it looks like it was used as a puck.

That Goodwill page is like smoking Crack.

9. Do you need a UV filter?
If you are shooting digital, the sensor has a UV filter built into the assembly.

While your lens hood will normally provide all the protection most users need, if you are looking for a "protective" filter, a clear one would be better. Either way, don't go cheap.

What bad/cheap filters do to you:

10. I forgot about that. I will look into clear filters. I have the uv to protect the lens.

I noticed the Nikon brand NC filter. Is that a worthy filter?

11. I have not heard anything bad about it.
However, I don't pay that much attention to "protective" filters any more since all of my lenses have hoods. I do have some cheap UV filters I originally bought with my digital lenses. Unfortunately they are cheap enough that I can tell the slight difference between with and without.

12. I'd rather subject the filter to the cleaning cloths than the lens.
