I had never heard of her. Truth is, I don't really make any effort to research other photographers. Recognized a few of her photos in the book. It's not that I don't enjoy the work of good photographers. I just research techniques and such.
When I look at the work of someone like Mary Ellen Park I realize just how bad I am. That's a good thing, I guess. Motivates me to do better. Learn more. Get in touch with my personal expression (whatever the hell that is).

http://www.maryellenmark.com/Worth a few minutes of your time to browse. In the book I purchased there is a wonderful introduction. One line sticks out from my quick read: "photography is an argument". It had to do with the truth and reality of photo journalism/documentary photography.
