There is another mention of this topic here:

When this technology was developed awhile back none of the big camera manufacturers jumped on it. Why? I have a ton of questions about this new technoblap. How does it meter? And what kind of optics will it use? Since you aren't really controlling aperture or shutter speed the only thing you would be doing is controlling the focal length of the lens. This suggests that you'll need to purchase the camera and special lenses.
It is really nothing more than a creative gimmick. Is a portrait or wedding photographer going to dump the thousands of dollars they have invested in equipment for this new tech? Doubtful.
And let's be honest here. How many people with cameras out there actually care about being creative?
I go back to the metering part. Okay, you can take a picture at f/45 (and everything below that), but how does it do with complex lighting? Highlights. Shadows. Stuff like that. Maybe you can control shutter speed.
It's a cool technoblap. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out in the real world.
