Getting my Goat...

So far, this has been just a lovely weekend for photography...initially, I was planning a heavy three days of activity, beginning with shooting the lavender fields at Sequim, possibly followed by sunset at Dungeness Spit, on Saturday. Unfortunately, my daughter got an allergic reaction to an insect bite -- nothing medication couldn't handle, but I we were told we were to keep her under observation and rush her to the E.R. if the reaction worsened (which, fortunately, it didn't) over the twenty-four hours after the clinic visit, so any Saturday travel was out of the question.

Sunday, by contrast, was projected to be overcast and rainy, so the Saturday itinerary was out. Instead, since it was relatively nearby, I decided to check out Goat Creek out to Goat Falls near Mount Rainier for some cloudy WFOT action. Left the house -- solid overcast. On the way from Enumclaw to Greenwood -- steady rain (not that I'm thrilled about it, but I at least have a covering for my camera). Past Greenwood -- rain clears up and back to solid overcast. Pull off at the forest road and find the trailhead -- the sun comes out???

Indeed, I had apparently gotten high enough in the foothills to clear the lower level of cloud/fog, and the upper layer is rapidly burning off. Since the forecast is for clouds, and I've already put in the effort to get there, I decide to continue with the hike, but it becomes quickly clear (no pun intended) that bright sunshine is in the offing for the next few hours, with all the visual havoc that entails. I finally decide to turn back short of the falls, when I find a few too many find-footholds-on-tree-roots uphill portions of the trail that I really don't feel like picking my way downhill on the return trip when I'm assured of nothing worth photographing at the end.

On the way back down, I come across a small stretch of the creek that's predominantly in shade, so I'm able to get a few images. Not bad, but I can only imagine how much nicer they would have been without the blown-out backgrounds or hotspots in the water. (And there were lots of other places along the creek that would have been great under better light. Maybe some other time...)











Anyway, tomorrow I have fireworks shooting planned. God knows what will happen this time... :grr:

1. Good things! Your daughter is OK. Time for Gratitude.

Your photos are lovely, the blue water, the lighting! You wish for more perfection-alas-all you had was the weather you had and it was not a driving rain any more.

I predict if you adjust your attitude about tomorrow, and expect the best, instead of trouble, you could program your mind that the best photo you took in months is going to happen tomorrow.
I bet you can do it. I'm counting on you. :)

2. Glad to hear that your

daughter is recovering from the bug bite. One never knows which critter will cause reactions.

You've had quite an eventful weekend . . . and did get some nice hiking in. ;-)
