Three more from the plantation - the Oaks were a real treat even in the rain

I liked the light, and the puddles, and the lines of the tree trunks



And this one, I just liked because the oaks - which by that time were my loves- continued the path of the columns

I'm a tree person, I just love old trees.

I live in New England and have been to Newport, RI numerous times. Most people go there to see the mansions (and they are worth seeing). I go to the mansions to admire the trees!

Your pictures were taken at the Oak Alley Plantation right??

I went to The Boone Hall Plantation in South Carolina and thought their avenue of oaks was beautiful. Here is a internet pic:


However, your oak pics are much more so!

Love that first one. Between the light and the way the water is on the trees they look like paintings still. The off center couple make it perfect. The other two are great too. :) So did you fall in love with New Orleans?

10. CC - my friend and poster of my entry - I did, and I did not fall in love.

I did love it in the way I got my thorough love for the deep South re-enforced. In that I saw the Bayoo(sp?) got to go out into it, air boat, alligators, water channels, the works. Learned how different it is from the same thing in Florida and the Everglades.
Was in the middle of loads of Spanish Moss that had strands of Carnival beads through it. I loved to see the regeneration happening and I really enjoyed the people and talking to them especially about how they got through Katrina 5 years ago. Learned about what they experienced in the Superdome and the Astrodome in Houston. Got to ask interminable questions.

I did not love it in the way the City has overtones now of commercialism and tourism and Vegas imitation and the heart that was beating when I was there 30 years ago is on a different rhythm. It's a bit hard to describe, but this isn't the venue to try anyway.
I did though like there is ONE casino. I played blackjack and made money for the entry fees to some of the things we did.

I may only post one more report, but that is not a promise. The lower ninth ward and what I got to see of what is there now must be shown.
And a photo of the one single thing I brought back from my trip, that one thing that did not cost a thing.

11. I was last there in 2003

while hurricane Isabel was drowning my part of the country. (Refused to come home until we had electric. lol) It was the people I feel in love with and the a photo everywhere you turned. Now don't go limiting photos you post of it.

12. I found this post with the links and it absolutely breaks my heart.

I had not seen these, and she did such a wrenching job with the presentation. It took me a while to look at them all - with pauses - just to protect myself from the pain.

I will later tonight post a few of what I saw in the lower ninth.
Hopefully they will provide a little inspiration and a touch of soothing. But maybe not.
