5. im going to try again in a week or so
i learned an important tip form another forum. To avoid star trails you should use an exposure no longer than 600/effective focal length.

so for a 50mm lens on a d7000 I need an exposure of 8 seconds or less. with my fish eye thats 38 seconds and with my big 300mm thats 1.3 seconds.

7. i think its ok as a first attempt
over all im not super happy with the results Out of 150 shots I only felt a very few very salvegable. . But it was my first attempt and its a lot different shooting at night when you cant see what your imaging thru the view finder or even on the lcd after the shot. . hopefully Ill get better

8. Green laser through the eyepiece..
It shines out the front of the lens and you can see where you're pointing.

I read about this on some forum and was a bit skeptical until I tried it, it's not as easy to see the beam after its gone through the camera as it is straight but dark adapted eyes can see it pretty well as long as there's not a lot of light pollution.

Needless to say this won't work unless you have an optical eyepiece DSLR..
