I've been scrimpin' n savin' and penny pinchin'
For a whole year and as of Setp 1 I will have saved 1450 dollars in my lil squirrel hide away. I have a D200 and it is still working but sometimes it gives me a scare or two and I am not sure just how long it will hang in there. I have met this really pretty girl on the block and she sees to be pretty user friendly and very agreeable. Her name is D300S and refurbished she will cost me about $1350 plus postage and that doesn't include the Customs to bring it in country... mebbe, just mebbe..... I gots all me fingers and toes crossed on this one....

9. Keh and the D300
rdking647, Thanks for your looking for me, I put in the freight charges and it comes to a dollar over what I am buying it my my home town of Woodburn Oregon for. I have been Dealing with Shutterbug ever since this photography bug bit me and the Manager of the Woodburn Branch always throws in some extra goodies like Learners DVDs and having the entire store of young people take me under their wings and teach me how to be a photographer with invites to Shoots and how to's etc... I have to stick with them... I appreciate your help immensely, I guess to me it is a matter of loyalty. Sorta like having all of you here who have done exactly the same thing... I belong to quite a few photo forums or groups, and to me DU has the top of the line Group. Must have something to do with Liberalism or Progressiveism or Socialism.......

I believe this will be my last big toy, I am hoping that I can find one of the family (my wife's family here in Raiatea) who might just want to learn a bit of Photography, I was hoping that my Grandson might but he has a smart phone and says that is good enough for him and he doesn't want to spend time learning a SLR. I have a D70 set up as a macro unit, and my D200 which is my all around workhorse. I am probably going to sell the D70 as it will make someone a nice learning tool to enter into the Digital SLR world. I have changed out the focusing screen on the D70 with the Kats Eye, never needed it for the D200 but not sure about the D300. For sure with the D70 I needed all the help I could get in the focus department. Still Do. I am 73.5 yrs old and still carry all my own gear. My tripod is a Dynatran 858 with a FanCier FT-6665H Ball Head. It is not just kinda heavy, It is Kinda Heavy but all in all, I love the stability and ruggedness. Next Month, I want to make my last trek to the top of Mt. Temehane and shoot the Tiare Apetahi one of the worlds rarest plants with a flower that has a legend behind it.... I want to go up and spend 3 to 4 days on the top and then come on down. It will take me the better part of a day just getting up there and I will be wanting those golden hours and being on the top of a mountain in the tropics, that can be a really iffy proposition.

Of all the things that I would do if I had it to do over, would be to learn how to string words together into some sort of coherence. Hell, I am an Old US Navy Chief and I am an expert at using four letter words... There is an art to it you know... Not for the faint of heart mind you, but when I am wound up I can be sorta like a hand grenade with no pin, just don't let go of the spoon..... One of the greatest things I have attempted to learn is Photography and the other is People. I have lived all my adult life pretty much as a minority, and I have found out that for sure we all are alike, we all have the same hopes, dreams, loves, hates, sadness, and human instincts... We all are people from the same critter or cell or slime or what ever. My american family thinks I am crazy, that I would give up everything to live in the middle of the south pacific with people that are so very different than them and so very very much like me..... I don't know why I am rambling so, perhaps it is Myra, or Solly, or Miz Pim, Or CaPeggy or all the rest of you .... I do want you to know that I admire all of you and see things here that I know are as good as any of the biggies have ever done. I am honored to be able to post here and to learn here and to fraternize with the finest group the United States has to offer.... (opinions are like noses, everyone has one). Thanks to you all you're wonderful...

10. words
i know what you mean about stringing word together. I spend 20 years on a trading floor, similar to working in a junior high locker room. I have a mouth an I use it (to my detriment a lot of the time). Im not as bad or as high sturng as I was when I was a floor trader but I still trade from home so I still have the temper.. there are times my wife knows just to stay away from me :)

8. I know no one here will think me too weird . . .
. . . but I've been known to put my d300 next to my bed and stroke her beautiful body before falling asleep. I feel weird if she doesn't get kissed at least once a day. She's for sure a honey. She'll even understand and be happy for me when I trade her up for a d800 one of these years.
