Went to a concert last night
I went to see one of my all-time favorite musicians, Shawn Phillips, whom I've followed since 1974. He performed at a wonderful venue in Normal Heights, CA (San Diego) in a church! It was a wonderful place, so intimate, and the sound was wonderful. It was magical!

1. Oh my! It's like being there. You captured the entire feel of it in the second one.

I'm going to now google him, so I can maybe really hear him sing.
Thanks for these!

Edited to add the link and to say I obviously found him and he now has a new "number one fan" along with you

3. That's great!
I photographed him many times over the years but lost all of them in the wildfire that burned our house down in 1996.

Here is a clip from waaaaay back (1966)! Oh, we're all getting so old now!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRxKl0zz2tE&feature=related

And here they are together again last June: http://www.youtube.com/user/ShawnPhillipsDVD#p/u/1/FhZO3P8aeQk doing a song called "Fat Angel" about Mama Cass with whom Shawn had a relationship.

Shawn pioneered the use of the sitar after seeing Ravi Shankar (he mentions this in the clip). He collaborated with Donovan and the Beatles. He refused to "prostitute" his music so never really made the mainstream although he did have a few top 40 hits. It's a shame because he's so talented. He has a four-octave voice.

I like this picture too (the lighting was awful photographically speaking).

Thanks for taking the time to check him out!

6. I'm getting a musical education and lovin' it. Both your links are
now saved after a careful listening and I am thoroughly turned on tuned in and tapped out.:)
I ordered a CD on ebay.
What a sound, and what a journey through time.

9. It's this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380365470438

I chose it because I loved the photo, and because it was inexpensive. Some of his are VERY expensive, they must pretty much all be rare.
I still have your address, if you want a copy. (remember: I've sent you music before as in a copy of Lightnin' Hopkins)

10. I'm still lovin' Lightnin'!
I think of you every time I see it (often as it's right here on my desk)! I'd love a copy if it's not too much trouble! I only have one disc (the best of the A&M Years which is kind of funny -- Jerry Moss (the M in A&M Records) and his wife, Ann, own Zenyatta, my favorite racehorse). The rest of my albums are vinyl and the only way I can play them is to go out to the garage and spin them on an old stereo console! I kind of like it but it lacks atmosphere!

Thanks Mira! Be sure to include your return address and I'll send you a surprise!

4. That's amazing!
It seems as though nobody knew him then or now! My boyfriend during my senior year of high school introduced me to his music. I met/photographed him many times over the years and even skied with him in Aspen (purely coincidence he was there at the same time). He's now 68 and still tours the world. He lives in South Africa with his wife and son.
