2. Where was it?
A "block from Bourbon" doesn't really help! LOL! There are 14 streets (going from memory) that intersect Bourbon. This looks like it is toward the Esplanade side of the FQ. Wait...are those are aprons? Then it would be near the restaurants. Tell me! Tell me! Tell me! It will drive me nuts!

3. I narrowed it down.
It was the day of the Nola Bulls, the San Fermin Festival
http://www.nolabulls.com/?id=0

Young women on roller skates in red - and a supportive populace dressed in white with red bandanas and belts.

The Bull run happens at 8 am. Then during the rest of the day you see the white dressed folks all over town. It was great fun.

About the two in my photo - best of my recollection would be that they sat there on the corner of Royal and Canal Streets. Definitely on the corner of Canal.
Does that help your homesick heart?

5. Good thought, but nothing is faster than the IM of a local:
here is what Bluedigger wrote to me an hour or so ago
quote:"picture of the couple looks like it was taken at the US Customs building on Canal Street - about 2 or 3 blocks from Bourbon ST. Good spot to watch Mardi Gras parades from... Nice shot!"

6. Looks like the US Customs building.
I was scanning my photos (which aren't many despite living there for 5 years) and couldn't figure it out. I really do miss the place....sometimes. Small town Oklahoma has its charms, ocasionally and shit is MUCH cheaper here, but Good Lord, it is BORING! I kept hearing this odd sound the other day. It was driving me nuts. I looked and looked and finally found it...it was the grass growing! ;)

8. There's an idea...were it not for my crippling fear of heights! :)
There are some very pretty vistas in OK, though. The Tulsa Zoo is quite fun and a great place for pictures.

9. You can always ski Black Mesa. I remember the beauty of
the plains. I found that the small details filled in when the grand vistas lost their allure. You can't appreciate the great plains in a car. You have to do it on foot, or bicycle.
