Dragonfly

Took this a couple of weeks ago at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. I didn't get any great bird shots but was pretty pleased with this dragonfly shot:

Is this shot heavily cropped or were you able to get fairly close?

2. Not cropped at all...

...I was testing my new Canon EF-S 55-250 zoom and this shot was taken at 250, so I didn't have to get too close.

It was a lucky shot for sure, the darned thing stayed still long enough for me to snap the picture! :-)

Do you like your Canon EF-S 55-250 zoom lens - it has such a wide range? Did you use a tripod?

5. Yes I love it...

...was looking at the Tamron 18-270, so I could just use one lens for everything -- but it's priced pretty high for the model with image stabilization, and the 55-250 was on sale for $186.50 so I opted to go with that to complement my 18-55 kit lens.

No tripod.

I had to laugh when I got home from my photo outing, lots of bird shots but none of them were special -- but I did have some eye-catching plant and insect shots. A 400 zoom would have worked a lot better to get those nice bird closeups that I had in mind. Oh well, maybe when I feel a little more practiced at this sort of photography I'll rent a bigger zoom lens and bring my tripod along and try again.
