This is my hometown-but I can't enter THIS photo!
Every photographer in Memphis has a photo of this. After all she is written up in the NY Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/05/us/05liberty.html I had no idea which way this 72 foot, six $$$$$$ figure statue faced, though, so I spent thirty minutes this morning driving to get a backlit shot of it. Good thing there were a few clouds. See the chain? Wonder about that? Me too!

Looks imposing, no? Consider the surroundings--

And why hadn't I been here? Well, I was a little leery of parking across the street--at the rent to own, cash checking, pawn shop shopping center.

I passed shopping centers like this--

After I had my fill, for balance I made sure I did a swing by the Buddha house. Unfortunately, Buddha faces the house directly so I could only get a side shot of it

No, I don't think I'll make this trek when the lighting is right. Rush hour traffic would make it about forty five minutes away, and after that I might have to dodge some area gunfights.

1. Why do I know exactly how you feel? These surely make me see why you
were questioning about entering, but on the other hand the potential is limitless. Just like me getting side tracked with the abandoned factories that bury the former wealth and glory of my town, or the acres of Hanes Hosiery factories, overgrown and for sale.

It all made me crazy taking tours of places I had not seen in decades, or ever, and not knowing what to do. I still don't.

I get the humor of course in what you show, as well as the heartache. That's what I'm saying.
You and I could have a heck of a photo shoot together protecting each other in our home towns.

2. I wish I had taken the time
when I was in NC to stop and take pictures of the sayings on the church billboards. There were some real DUzys!

"Life stinks? We've got a pew for you."
