Happy Thanksgiving everyone! And let's get started with the December contest
I talked with Mz Pip, who had offered to do Dec so I did not have to do two in a row. But then that left "Scenes of Winter" without a host, and no volunteer piped up.

So I'm back to work with you my dear friends to get December going.

Over the holiday please post your ideas for a theme.
I'd like to see some things that are new. The ones that keep rolling around and don't make the cut are maybe not what we want to feature at this time in the unfolding of events in the universe. So let's stretch our imaginations.

After Thanksgiving I'll collate the ideas and make a poll. I'll move the contest through quickly on all fronts except the shooting schedule. I'd like to have give or take a day 2 weeks of that.

So, I'll throw one out just because I'm the hostess, and it's "Gatherings of People, any kind"

other than that, for your Thanksgiving entertainment, it's an eagle owl, not a turkey, and it's approaching the camera in slow motion. Ordinarily a flight of just a few seconds.

1. I was too sick to go to my sister in laws, so I will miss
photographing a gathering of people. I have a viral infection in my eyes, so driving is out of the question.

2. Well, it's not the theme, only a tentative suggestion. I know enough about your photo
to know you'll have plenty of photos of people gatherings in the files. I'm so very sorry your sick!!!

What would YOU like for us to consider as a theme?

3. Thanks. I'm not that sick, just don't feel social. Eye infections
are a drag.

A Christmas theme would be too easy, so the approaching cold, the change of light, the silence of winter could contain a theme.

8. It sounds a bit too close to the soon to happen theme of "Scenes of Winter"
but if you explain, or narrow it down, and give it a name, I'll include it in the poll.

4. My dear Mira!
How about something along the lines of "celebration"?

This could cover the "normal" holidays and any other things you could think of.

:hi:

7. Thanks for the suggestions. I do believe we did night shots about 2 years ago.
I know we did, now that I think about it, I remember my entry.
Don't know about "animals, not pets"having been done, but I do know it has not been done in the 3 (or is it 4) years that I've been around, so I'll include it.
I like machinery, I think that's a fresh idea.

I don't know about false color, so describe it for me if you don't mind.
If I run this contest, I have to understand what it is.
I'm awfully basic in what I know and it is not much, as all of you are well aware of.

10. by false color i mean a photo
edited to it appears in unnatural colors... for instance a scene with a green sky or red grass etc.... just a weird idea I had.

13. I suspected that, but had to be sure. Thanks for the elaboration.
Since some, myself included, don't have the skill or software to achieve that effect, it would limit participation.

The last 3 or 4 contests did not pull in 30 submissions, so I don't want to put out a theme that may not be open to all.
Make sense?

11. this group has done celebrations too
I wasn't around then. If we have that expect a lot of fireworks shots!

:silly:

I've always wanted to do "Critters"--which would be non birds, non pets, and non zoo animals. I would say mammals or rodents that are wild. In general that would be something like squirrels, and deer. If you included reptiles that would be snakes too! Could get exciting! That is a slightly different thing from animals that are not pets. So.........take your pick or include both. Taking photos of zoo animals doesn't exactly get me excited............

Your call on that, Mira!

15. I've got a million of 'em.
:) Moose, bears, sheep, mountain goats, marmots, caribou, rabbits, wolves, beavers -- I love that about Alaska.

18. This popped into my head: " Unexpected".
An unusual juxtaposition
or
something unusual in a "normal" scene ..I was thinking of SnowTober pic from the Autumn contest, when it snowed in October.

just a thought..
