Where to host Photography contests on DU3?

Poll question: Where to host Photography contests on DU3?

There's several discussions of this scattered around DU2 and DU3. Where do you think it would be best to host the Photography contests?

1) Here in the Photography Group. We could post links in SoapBox or Good Reads to guide people here, with approval from the hosts of those groups/forums of course.

2) In Soap Box, following DU tradition of posting the contests in GD.

3) In Good Reads, another big forum with a large audience.

4) Other. That obvious option I didn't think to include.

1. I'm still deciding if I'm even going to use DU3.

I don't like many features of it, and I may just bow out of DU altogether. But in answer to your question, I would suppose Soap Box would be most appropriate since that seems to most closely resemble GD.

2. It's going to take some adjustment.

I think once we all get used to it, it will start to feel like home. I hope you decide to come over, at least to visit occasionally. This group wouldn't be the same without you.

I may frequent only the Photo Group because I know I can't get in trouble here. :evilgrin:

I have issues with all the layers of moderating and jurying and hiding and people being able to see who has them on ignore, And, for heaven's sakes, why does anyone need to see how many times I edited my typos? I thought DU was fine as it was.

3. Oh no, that wouldn't be good

Is it the Facebook "like" option? Is that a :wtf: May have something to do with ad revenue. I'd love to hear what you don't like about it.

I guess it's just a feeling of sequestration or something, breaking things up into too many subcategories with too many layers of moderation. I'm probably left of a lot of people in control at DU and I tend to be pretty outspoken in real life. Even now I find myself self-censoring a lot on this board. At the new place, I'm going to be afraid to even open my mouth.


But then maybe I'm just being paranoid. :shrug:

where it looks like I might be argumentative. But at least try it and see how it works out. Overall I think our administrators are pretty good. I have a bit of a conspiracy theory bent myself! :rofl:

Thanks. There's no rush to decide. Whatever you guys want to do. I just thought I'd see if we could reach a consensus before a contest comes up and we're all scrambling to figure things out. Another option would be to try things out and see what forum/group works best.

Edit: Technically it was SollyMack and others who started the ball rolling and deserve the credit. I'm just following through on their ideas/suggestions.

... Somewhere on DU3 I thought I saw some admins suggesting that keeping them in the photo group might be the new expectation.

13. It will be nice to be

able to pin the submission thread & comment thread to the top when running a contest. Would make it easy for everyone to find if the group is moving fast.




And Blue, you can't leave we need you. Actually I would find it sad to lose any more of the group and still miss many of those that have left.

14. As I see it, Polls have not yet been programmed. And the launch of DU3 will happen

before the polling capabilities are in place, according to one of Skinner's threads.
We may be up the creek without the paddle for a while.
We can't do a contest without polls.

15. These are all good points.

There's no rush to decide, especially as Mira points out, we can't post polls yet on DU3. Fwiw, the hosts of Soapbox say we are welcome to post contests there, if the group decides to do that.
