Does the ring of your telephone make you jump out of your skin?
I have one of those electronic phones w/ two satellite phones for other rooms. But I swear it's just as jarring as the old-fashioned ringers. Just now I jumped out of my skin! :grr:

Lukily, it was just the garage where I had some work done on my car last week, asking how the service was. I really would like to turn the ringer down, but it's either on or off. I don't understand. My cell phone ring isn't that annoyingly loud, even at full blast.

Is there a way to improve my home phone ring? Does this bother anyone else?

1. home phone home phone
It made me yell a couple of times, or I'll feel that rush through my arms, like my heart's jumped. So I'm a nervous wreck as well as a loner I think :)
There are ways to change most phones I think but I don't know how.

3. Have to smile here.....my grown kids and hubby want me to use the
cute little cell phone they bought me 2 weeks ago for me to carry around with me when out of the house, but, I have been very honest with them about this, I have an allergy/aversion to these things, and don't WANT to be disturbed and reachable when I am out walking my dog in the parks or on the beach, or in a store, or at the library, or in the car.....:eyes:

They think I am slightly weird about this, but the experience is similar to what you describe about your home phone.

In the house we have a ringer that we can turn down, so I have it very low....:D

Hope you can find a way to adjust yours.

4. I don't like telephone rings in general.
I do like my music ringtones on my phone, but that doesn't mean I want it ringing. Needless to say, I did not enjoy my job as a receptionist. Some days it made me want to scream and/or cry every time the phone rang. I have never been a phone person.

I try not to check my phone when I'm not in the mood to talk to people, but I'm in that mood alot, so I end up checking my phone anyway because I don't want to be rude. Either i need to stop caring, or stop being so anti-social...

5. It sounds like most people not liking phone rings actually worry about who is calling.

6. Only partly true
The only people I'm interested in hearing from are family and friends.

Pollsters, sellers of all stripes, Arbitron folks, I couldn't care less about, and they actually make me angry by calling.

8. P.S.
It's one of those TracPhones which means I can't get one of those custom ringtones.

9. Sure, get a phone with different tones, etc. My phone makes me
angry, as I get constant telemarketers with nothing but some scam that I would never buy in person.

11. rotary phone
Edited on Sat Apr-02-11 09:19 AM by trud
If you buy an old rotary phone (refurbished, on ebay), a lot of them have analog volume controls. Some turn the sound completely off at the lowest setting, some don't. If you want the sound completely off, say for an extension, you can take the bottom off and wedge in thin cardboard between the striker and bell until the sound is at zero. Then reattached the bottom.

You want one of this vintage, not a newer rotary:

12. better callerid
What I looked for on the web and could not find was a large display callerId. Currently I have to pick up my phone, carefully holding the entire thing, to see the callerid. I'd like something I could just glance over at, so it would have to be 5-6 inches long at least. I did find one about that size, but the photo looked like the display would still probably be hard to read.

13. Weird, but true.
Caller ID when the phone rings while having the TV on - caller shows up on the DishTV screen.

Must be the satellite connections, eh?
