Help me list some! I'll be looking for another job in a year or so, and this list, while maybe seeming silly, may help me choose my next career! It can't depend heavily on using the phone to communicate, can't involve children or sales or people management...what is there?

1. I work at home as an editor of news transcripts and am an artist.

I love not having to deal with people on a daily basis. It's too exhausting. Do work, upload, get paid.

Always loved lighthouses, as do a lot of people. But I've always wondered about life as a lighthouse operator. Do you love it?

I think Boomer is just saying. As lighthouses have been automated nationwide long long ago. He doesn't have that job, just, like so many of us, he would like it.
I think those firespotters get lonely up there. It is nice to just go into a store and buy something sometimes, to get a little human interaction, but not too much.
Also, the firespotters spend a lot of other time getting the job, etc, with all the interaction that goes with getting and keeping that.
It ain't an easy concept.

4. Medical transcription.

My company provides the computer, the software, the work, and the paycheck. I work from home on a fairly flexible schedule and the company direct deposits money into my bank account.

No commute. No "business wardrobe." No office politics. Just a computer, a comfortable chair, and a broad-band internet connection. If I have to work for money, this is the way to do it.

7. I'm a work-at-home transcriptionist as well.

I do corporate, not medical, though.

6. I work as a computer operator

And on most days I have the place to myself for 3/4 of my shift. Only the occasional phone call.

8. Heh that's what I want too....

A job that doesn't involve exactly what you listed,a phone to communicate, children, sales or people management. Unfortunately finding one like that has proven quite difficult for me, they are not easy to come by. I just want a job where I can go, do my work, not talk/interact with anyone except maybe co-workers or the higher ups and then just go home, ya know?

I know a fellow DUer has that job of being a "fire spotter" in a massive national forest, it sounds absolutely perfect. Only problem is I don't live near any national forest lol.

exactly that job some years ago. Believe me, it is not all it's cracked up to be. Regular pain, it was.

13. I'm about to launch my own virtual assistant business.

I'm really excited to do this. I think it will have just enough human contact (via phone & internet) to engage me, but not the aggravation of working with people face to face. Still, I'm not so naive to think that there won't be a whole new set of aggravations!
