Books for loners.
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 08:24 PM by chaska
Hey everybody. Sorry I can't be here more often. I do try to get in a few minutes of lurking time every day, but that's about all I can seem to manage.

So, books. Was it Supernova that recommended the "Highly Sensitive Person" books? That's next on my list.

Right now I'm reading 'Party of One - The Loners Manifesto'. I highly recommend it. Very interesting, wide-ranging and entertaining. I don't have time to really talk about it much, but I thought this was pretty intersting on the subject of work:

How much time spent with others is too much? Side by side, within their site, in earshot -- forty minutes? Two hours, tops. Yet today's standard workshift lasts eight. Putting loners in busy workplaces all day is like making albinos pick cotton without sunscreen.

So what are some other books?

Edit: Forgot the author. It's anneli rufus.

1. Henry David Thoreau.
I did like Ms Rufus' book, better than the "Highly Sensitive Person".

2. Excellent book
The Introvert Advantage by Marti Olsen Laney

I think it really gives a lot of insight to how introverts differ from extroverts......physically, emotionally, intellectually. Lots of good info, including how to deal with the rest of the world.

3. Oh, I like that.

Is that yours?

"Making me work in an office with other people all day is
like making an albino pick cotton without suncreen."

That's great! That's so true. So true.

4. Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse.
Anybody read it. I haven't. It's mentioned in 'Party of One'.

Also 'The Hunger Artist' is mentioned as one of the great statements. I have read it a couple of time. It's definitely worth a read.

How about paintings (another thread?)? I'm thinking 'Christina's World' by Andrew Wyeth. One of my favorites.

7. You'll love it. I finished it the other day (I'm returning it today).
But before that, a quote on the subject of childhood and lonerism:

Playing alone means never being forced to put Barbie and Midge and Ken through halfwit dialogues somebody else thought up.

Another book:
The Catcher In The Rye
