Does anyone think this name is too depressing?
If anyone has a suggestion for something besides "Loners," please discuss it here.

Thanks! :hi:

3. The Michael Jackson forum?
we have a lot in common with him, aside from the accusations of child molestation and a glorious past, but at least I can say I'm wildly popular in Russia.

is anyone else here wildly popular in Russia?

9. Singles implies
somethint to do with dating/mating, as in the seeking. I don't think this forum is about that as far as focus goes.

Loners sounds right to me.

14. I'm a solitary.
But I'm also a loner.

"LWolf" is not my name; it's "LoneWolf." An apt a description of me as I can think of. When I first registered with DU, the site just wouldn't take LoneWolf, although there were no others. Now I've seen a few variations; I'm still the Lone Wolf, and am ok with "Loner" as well.

16. so. lonewolf
thinking of solitairy creatures that wander the earth and skies.went to where the snow geese flock today, walked into a meadow land near the slough and sat there a bit. spied a loon who did not move for the entire half hour i was there. several hawks flying low then perching on deadwood so close i could see the eyes. the otter came to raid the beaver lodges and play. the sky was low and grey.
so. i do these things alone and become the creature.
peace to you lonewolf

17. I do the same.
Though I'm often out in the hills with my horse. I get further away that way. I've sat and watched a bobcat sitting and watching a rodent den for time unmeasured. The same for the heron fishing the spring, the snake basking in the dry creek, the roadrunner stalking the lizards, and the coyotes slinking through the brush. I ride through an abandoned almond orchard in the spring, celebrating the showers of blossoms, and harvest the almonds from my mare's back in summer, eating along the trail. I curl up against a big rock in a sheltered, hidden little cup between rugged hills in the spring, and let the mare crop the new grass while I soak up the sun and munch the miner's lettuce. I once stood 15 yards from a golden eagle on the ground. We stood like statues, looking into each other's eyes, until finally the mare stamped in impatience and I moved on.

This is how and where I find peace.

But I thought I'd join you'all, temporarily at least.

I am a single, but I do not live alone, nor do I want to...

Furthermore, the title "Singles" is taken, and is currently under Skinners consideration. Use of the title "Singles" implies something other than what you guys are talking about.

You can find the details here...

You lone wolves should be proud of yourselves, If a Singles Group doesn't work, maybe I'll join ya, but until then...

18. How about "the introvert group."
I always prefer introvert because it denotes that I draw energy from introspection.

Agree, disagree?

19. I thought of that too...
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 01:48 PM by chaska
In some ways I like it better. But, technically speaking, it's a very broad term. There are a lot of folks that consider themselves introverts that, were they here, the waters would get so muddy that the whole focus of the group would be lost. There are those who consider themselves introverts who are functionally quite gregarious, for example.

I'm not particularly unhappy with the name as is, but I'm not averse to changing or fine tuning it either. Perhaps if we extended it somehow, like say Loner/Shyness or Loner/Introvert.... We should probably keep the loner thing in there somehow, though.

That said, I would like to broaden the scope somewhat, to increase participation, to keep the group alive. I think we need a little more Joementum.

This article has some good stuff on the types of introverts, etc.: http://www.crouser.com/books/extrovert.htm

26. Makes sense.
I would characterize myself as an extreme introvert. I have social skills, and I can even be charming or amusing, but I find it tedious to be around groups of people. That's how I look at it. :)

24. Personally, the French word 'Solitaire' is growing on me....
It translates to: a solitary person, loner, recluse, etc.

Groupe Solitaire or Groupe de Solitaire. Sophistiscated and oxymoronic. Dig.

Who's kidding who? We are going to stay the Loner's group. Like it or not. Boring, but we'll never agree on a change.
