the donkey I'm making
it's called "Mahdonkey" even though it's a pattern I got free online so it's not really mah'n.
I'm starting to grind it today but it'll probably take me a few days to finish, I'm so slow.

(I'm so proud lately, I have donkey stuff all over  maybe this goes in the Crafts group really)

1. What is that? Is it stained glass?
Is it very hard to do?

2. hey, yah stained glass
It's not very hard, just kinda tedius. It's really a Craft more than a art maybe but the finished arts are beautiful in the light.
I want to make a few donkeys, for my donkey pride :) making animal designs is more fun even though they might not ever sell.
I don't sell them yet anyway, I just keep them hung all over the house and give them for gifts.

3. etc etc!
here's two, both of these have cracks in them so they're mine to keep unless I take tham apart and fix them.
I made the peace design, it's called Peace On World :p The flowers were from a pattern.

4. I love that flower one
It's very art deco-y. What would you charge for something like that?

6. charge..
well the pieces take me so much time and worry (I have problems with concentrating/focussing) that they would not sell for what they're worth to me! Like for that one I'd want like $400!, but someone who's faster at it would charge $200 or $250.

But now there are machines that cut a lot of glass fast and the pieces don't have to be ground before they're foiled and soldered. I've seen big pieces at TJMaxx for like $75 that handmade would be $200 or $300. The soldered lead isn't as neat but machine cut pieces are pretty anyway so people don't care, they're just affordable.
Anyway I'm not gonna worry about selling things until I have a LOT more made.

5. Are you torch-soldering those, or using some of the "cold" compounds I've seen? nm

7. soldering
the pieces are cut, then ground, then the edges wrapped in foil then it's all fluxed and soldered.
there are A LOT of oportunities to work on the details so I'm slow at it ( :banghead: )

8. I dropped out of my jewelry making class.
It's the soldering that did me in. I can't do it properly. I would solder the pieces together, put it in the "pickling pot" and it would fall apart again. That and the filing, and filing, and sanding and sanding. Too much!

9. Good soldering is mostly surface preparation.
Silver needs to be PERFECTLY clean to get a perfect solder joint.
Even a single fingerprint can ruin a soldering.

(I happen to LIKE filing and sanding, so I'm still making jewellery. :))

11. Nicely done!!
Here's my most recent project. I replaced the panels in an armoire.

My husband drew the pattern for me, so they are one of a kinds. :)

They are about 13 3/4 inches long.

:hi:

12. oh nice!
You've done a great job on them and the pattern is beautiful. I made a few of my own patterns but never with flowers, I don't think I could make a flower better than the ones in the books. I like the thorns }( and how it all fits in the oval. Thanks for showing it!
