For the past three years I have curated and co-ordinated a large (150 work)show at a prominent public art space in Melbourne.
The exhibition is the annual flagship event for an organisation called ADEC - Action on Disability in Ethnic Communities, I work as an outside consultant. The criteria for artists is that they must come from an ethnic background and have a disability. The artists range from practising artists with, say, MS or MD to students at special schools with severe intellectual disability.
In 2008 our theme was 'Journey'. In 2009, 'Home' and in 2010, because the exhibition opened on 2 December, 'Summer'(southern hemisphere here).
I like the idea of a one word theme. It must be something that art teachers can pick up and run with but also provide enough inspiration for experienced artists to see something worthwhile in the theme.
I've put the proposal in to ADEC to curate ArtAbility again this year. The theme I'm thinking of is 'Harmony'.
Can you guys come up with something better?
