Montclair painter Tim XXXX is showing his fantastical landscapes and creatures in the Commons of Union County College in Cranford through March 17, 2005. (This winter's shows have been displaced during renovations to the McKay Library and Tomasulo Gallery.) XXXX's paintings are representational, but they are made by pouring paint onto aluminum sheets; some paintings actually took 50 gallons of paint to construct.
The results are often hallucinogenic, strangely three-dimensional images made of undulating rivers of paint, here and there thickened with bristles or hair. XXXX has been experimenting with paint for many years; he is also a Marine Corps Reserves captain, part of G Company in Dover.
