1. Gauguin has always inspired me
Philip Gustin and Cezanne too...but I still keep going back to Gauguin.

8. The thing I remember most about this painting from Art History
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 10:13 PM by wovenpaint
class, is that it was meant as a suicide note. IIRC, he used up his paints and it's painted on burlap and off he went to drink poison....didn't work! So back he came...
France would love to get this painting back - but it's too fragile to move. Oh well...I always visit it when I get into Boston.
My favorites are DaVinci, Kandinsky, O'Keefe, Picasso, Josef and Annie Albers...at the moment, anyway!

3. chicago influenced me
chicago artists are a special bunch. i had the priviledge of studying at the school of the art institute with christina ramberg.

she was an amazing painter, and a fabulous person. ( she died of a brain tumor in about 1997?. she was only in her late 40's. brain tumors are sadly common im artists.)
the imagists were a down to earth, in your face bunch of painters, who persisted in doing figurative painting, when all the world, especially new york, had turned to abstraction. quirky, crazy firgures to boot.

5. Hopper and O'Keeffe
I've always been drawn to uncrowded places so I think that has a lot to do with it. I really don't like crowds, traffic, commotion. I also love Hopper's shadows and light. I love O'Keeffe for her maverick spirit, almost as much as her artwork.

12. I love Miro
I even named one of my cats after him!

I love a lot of the painters from the Flemish school, plus many of the great illustrators of the golden era (particlarly the Brandywine group). I also really enjoy Chihuly's glass installations...my tastes are pretty much all over the place.

11. I like most of the ones mentioned here
but my favorites are the Fauvists and Expressionists, being Oskar Kokoschka and Andre Derain, oh and I always wanted to live in a Matisse painting, so I painted my bedroom in that style...MY style is closer to El Greco and Botticelli

Oskar Kokoschka

Derain
