did four paintings yesterday

one I love, two I really like, and one is ok, though Sniffa really likes it. I had so much fun painting them though, it was a great time, more about the process than the product, but they came out pretty cool too.

you needed cadmium red but only had a tube of acrylic not oil?

(I guess you're not talking about layering acrylic washes as an underpainting before the final oil?)

with mixing oils and acrylics? i could be wrong on this...but don't they dry at different rates...and over the course of time they will pull apart and or seperate...

probably not a problem in most cases...

9. mmm, not a problem exactly.

As I alluded, acrylic washes and underpaintings are copacetic under oils.

i have not used acrylics...i have seen them used...i like them but i think they give work a very modern feel...i want to learn to use egg tempura...and of course water colors are the bomb...although i tend to use them in a very heavy handed way...i love working in oils...but it's been years since i picked up a brush...

heh heh...boris vallejo...didn't he used to do covers for creepy and eerie...back in the seventies? i really love his work...dynamic sexy and adept...

11. I've never had a problem mixing the two

they do dry at different rates but I"m used to working with them toghether and it hasn't been an issue

14. if you do not use the wash technique

then the "pulling apart" will occur over the course of years...i can see the background wash as being very effective...but if you are actually mixing oil and acrylic the bad stuff might not occur for a quite a while...
