Earlier today we ran an analysis of posting traffic in each of the DU Groups. Those DU Groups that had fewer than one post per week (13 posts in the previous 90 days) have been selected for possible deletion. (Note: DU Groups for potential 2008 presidential candidates were exempted from deletion, because we expect they will become more active sometime in 2007.)

This Group was one of the DU Groups with fewer than 13 posts in 90 days, and has been selected for deletion. The Group will be deleted if there is not sufficient interest to keep it going.

If you want this Group to remain open, please post in this thread to let us know. The deadline for posting is midnight Thursday June 29. If at least ten people post in this thread to support the Group, it will remain open. Otherwise, it will be closed.

I tried to garner support when the group first launched, but it never took off and I ran out of time just posting to myself:). I was hoping it could be a one-stop shop for debunking right-wing propoganda.

I was looking for a topic area where posters can discuss what are commonly referred to as "conspiracy theories" or "tinfoil hat" topics and just randomly clicking on topics that sounded even remotely like my subject.

I guess I'm thinking that theories that are promoted by the * administration are usually laced with propaganda and any thoughts to the opposite would be considered "conspiracy theories."

So is that what this sub-topic would include?

Frankly, I hadn't been on this forum before now, and I could see myself as maybe using it as a reference pretty often now that I know about it, but without posting a lot to it because I might be here to get information and have nothing to give. One potential use for this forum would be to scan it for LTTE ideas and responses to various right-wing drivel purveyors.

Countering fascist lies is an ongoing need. We have to keep fighting them and not letting them establish the frame of the discourse, not letting them plant falsehoods and disinformation as part of the common fund of "knowledge."

Now that I know about it, I'm gonna go look at it & start using it a lot more. I had often vaguely wished for something like this, not realizing that it was under my nose all this time.

It would be a great place to put any of the things that get argued about constantly.

i mean, last year there was a huge argument about how much oil the military and the war fronts ate up every minute of every day.

And some DU'er carefully showed how large a percentage of the nation's total energy consumption that the military did indeed use up, ony there was no way to mark those
facts froever.

This could be a place where things could be finalized and made an archive of research.

but now that I do, I think it should be given a reprieve because it could be very useful. I like the "one-stop shopping" potential - it would be nice to go to one group and immediately have access to info that destroys all the RW talking points. It would probably be more of a reference page then an actual group - maybe it could be restructured somehow or combined with the research forum. :-)

... to here, I think the traffic would increase. I really wish that all the "I just read an awful RW email", look what my RW sister-in-law just sent me" and "please help me debunk" posts from GD would be moved here by the modmins for quarantine and focused response. I think that having them in GD just gives them more exposure to the general DU populace than they deserve.

What I would suggest to any enthusiasts of the group is to populate it with copied posts from other threads, not just published material.

Asking other DUers to "donate" their post to the debunking "library" and thanking them (all publicly in the other threads) would build interest in this thread and generate more activity here.

I happen to live in a red state, and you guys wouldn't believe the amount of propaganda email I receive weekly. (To make it worst a good amount of it is from so-called Democrats.) I've had about enough of co-workers sending me "truth" that is nothing short of wholesale lies -- kind of like the WMD claims. I also read some real zingers in the local right-wing Oklahoman rag. Most of the time I never reply to any of it because I don't know where to start, but I would love to be able to post some of the stuff and have DUers help me debunk the nonsense...
