Here's an email I received from my supposedly liberal sister, with my replies:

Wow, there's so much wrong with this chain letter. Not only is it racist and ignorant of facts, nothing in the note talks about policies or political stands, just fear mongering. It reads like it was written by the KKK....

HIS MOTHER IS A KANSAN, ATHEIST, WHITE - WHERE ARE THE PICTURES OF HIS KANSAN, WHITE MOTHER AND HIS WHITE GRANDPARENTS WHO RAISED HIM?

Is this to suggest that they don't exist, or that they weren't white? Does it matter?

HIS MOTHER THEN MARRIED AN INDONESIAN MUSLIM AND TOOK HIM TO JAKARTA WHERE HE WAS SCHOOLED IN A MUSLIM SCHOOL. NO ONE HAS DISCLOSED FOR HOW LONG, BUT AT SOME POINT HIS MOTHER RETURNED TO HAWAII AND HE WAS RAISED BY HIS WHITE KANSAN GRANDPARENTS. WHEN AND FOR HOW LONG?

"During the five years that we would live with my stepfather in Indonesia, I was sent first to a neighborhood Catholic school and then to a predominantly Muslim school; in both cases, my mother was less concerned with me learning the catechism or puzzling out the meaning of the muezzin's call to evening prayer than she was with whether I was properly learning my multiplication tables."

HE LATER WENT TO THE BEST HIGH DOLLAR CHOOLS....HOW?

Could be he had a scholarship, could be that he/his mother/family saved enough money to send him there. Why is that a crime? Lots of people work hard to send their children to the best schools.

What are 'CHOOLS' anyway?

HE LIVES IN A $1.4 MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE THAT HE ACQUIRED THROUGH A DEAL WITH A WEALTHY FUND RAISER....HOW?

HE 'WORKED' AS A CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST IN CHICAGO - HAS NEVER HELD A PRODUCTIVE JOB.

How is working as a civil rights activist not a productive job? He "moved to Chicago in 1985, where he became a community organizer with a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods plagued with crime and high unemployment." That's more than a bit better than ruining oil companies your daddy buys for you...

THE PRESIDENCY IS NOT A CIVIL RIGHTS POST, NOR IS IT SUBJECT TO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION SET ASIDE.

Nobody said that it was, and that statement in itself is racist.

HE ENTERED POLITICS AT THE STATE LEVEL AND THEN THE NATIONAL LEVEL, WHERE HE HAS MINIMAL EXPERIENCE.

Lots of US presidents were either governors or persons of short national experience. It's not a requirement for the job.

HE IS PROUD OF HIS 'AFRICAN' HERITAGE, BUT IT SEEMS THAT HIS ONLY AFRICAN CONNECTION WAS THAT HIS AFRICAN FATHER GOT A WHITE GIRL PREGNANT AND DESERTED HER.

His parents separated when he was 2, so that statement is false, and again, blatantly racist. Why can't he be proud of his African heritage?

WHERE IS THE PRIDE IN HIS WHITE CULTURE?

Again, blatant racism.

HE WENT TO AN 'AFROCENTRIC' CHURCH THAT HATES WHITES, HATES JEWS, AND BLAMES AMERICA FOR ALL THE WORLD'S PERCEIVED FAULTS AND THEN REPEATEDLY COVERS UP FOR THE PASTOR AND THE CHURCH.

HE CLAIMS THAT HE COULD NOT CONFRONT HIS PASTOR BUT HE WANTS US TO BELIEVE THAT HE CAN CONFRONT NORTH KOREA AND IRAN. YEAH, RIGHT!!!

Was he president of his church? Did he have the power to hire and fire the pastor, and set the tone of the services and sermons?

HERE IS THE KICKER, THOUGH--I HEARD HIM SAY THIS AFTER HE HAD CLOSED OUT HIS NOMINATION. 'I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS TIME TO THANK MY GRANDMOTHER, WHO PUT EVERYTHING SHE HAD INTO RAISING ME. SHE IS SOMEWHERE IN HAWAII AND CANNOT BE HERE BECAUSE SHE CAN'T WALK.'

'SOMEWHERE' IN HAWAII? IF OBAMA CHECKED INTO IT, I'LL BET THAT HE COULD FIND A WHEELCHAIR IN HAWAII. LIKE I SAID AT THE START, 'I AM CONFUSED !!!!'

The original writer is confused because they don't understand compassion for your fellow human beings. Maybe it was a hardship for his grandmother to go to the rally, that is, too physically taxing.
