1. Miyazaki is a genius
When I worked at Disney Feature Animation, all of us artist's were big fans of his, but management just didn't get his movies (why would anyone see and animated movie without singing mice that was 2 hours long??)Then Disney started distributing his films in the US, while at the same time, dismantling our traditional studio. Go figure!

7. 20 years
(Ouch! Hurts to write that. Well, I did start professionally as a teenager). It's been off and on. Last time I worked on a film was more than a year ago. Not much of a call for us traditional folks anymore. :-(

10. I went to the School of Visual arts and roomed with a couple animators
I've always been a staunch devotee. I fear that with Miyazaki's eventual passing we will really lose touch with t raditional cell animation. Though the success of the Tripletes of Belleville is a hopeful sign

14. Everything traditional is being done overseas
these days. The "Curious George" production (no relation to *) keeps trying to get going here in the states, but then ends up back in script.

12. I must get my daughter to post some of her original
creations...she does some beautiful things with wildly inventive pixies, fairies, dragons, unicorns...both in traditional formats and on the PC.

hmmmmmmm

2. Good dedications.
Thanks for setting this up.

I'd add a dedication to Mel Blanc, Bob Clampett, and Tex Avery.

9. I attended a lecture by Mel Blanc while I was at AU
He was a cool, cool man. Very sweet and very funny. He said one time that he was laid up in the hospital for a few months and someone asked him how many voices he could "do". He started counting and lost track when he was over 900.

11. The two stories that I always hear about him:
(possibly apocryphal?)

Once when very ill in the hospital, he was too out of it to respond to his own voice, but would reply in character if someone asked for Bugs or Porky.

Also, that he hated carrots. They made him physically ill. He tried other vegetables when recording Bugs' voice, but none had the right "crunch". So he chomped on the carrot, then had to spit it out immediately after the take was done.

5. from all us kids who never grew up, salutations!
Our whole family adores animation!

My husband and I are grateful to our daughter for introducing us to Japanese animation, especially Miyazaki!

Can't wait until his new feature is released over here!
