Wow. If you can handle extreme violence Elfen Lied is very powerful
Just finished watching Elfen Lied. A 13 part series from Japan(+1 on the upcoming DVD release). Very powerful story contained here but not for the easily rattled. Lets just say the very first scene is a closeup of a severed arm still riggling. The focus is not the violence though.

It is a very emotional series. It breaks a lot of anime conventions. Well worth the viewing... if you can handle all the blood.
