Joinery for dummies. Ask me anything.
I just discovered pocket-hole screw jig technology and biscuit joiner technology. I'm so proud of my self I thought I'd post these pics. I think these tools make cabinet making fairly easy.

The pocket-hole jig makes "butt" joints easy. The tool countersinks holes perfectly for butt joint joinery. I bought one made by "Kreg". I bought the whole kit but you can buy individual pieces.

http://www.kregtool.com/products/pht/product.php?PRODUCT_ID=10

The solid doors where made using 3/4 inch oak stock joined with biscuits. The (soon to be)glass doors where made with the "pocket-hole" jig. The cabinet frame was made using pocket-hole screws. The top was pieced together with biscuits.

The solid doors next to the fireplace where made using biscuits. I need to re-do one of the doors as it took stain funny and darkened too much in one spot. I did the fireplace a few years ago.

3. Thank you! It helps to have the right tools.
I'm not a big fan of gadgets but I saw Norm Abram use the pocket-hole jig on "New Yankee Workshop" so I picked one up. Someday, I want to take a joinery class to learn the traditional methods but that tool is pretty nifty.

I'm on a role;I just built a vanity for a friend's bathroom. I'm thinking of trying my hand at a second/side job but I don't quite have the confidence.

I'm trying to talk a few friends in to building built-ins in their places so I can practice some more.

4. What beautiful cabinets!
Thanks for the photos which will inspire me as I start constructing bookcases and cabinets for my family room (after I finish installing this #*!@*! engineered wood floor).

I'll look for the jigs you mentioned. There is a Rockler store nearby, or maybe I could improvise one?

6. I bought mine on-line but I think they sell them at Loews.
www.kregtool.com

The whole kit goes for about 140 bucks but you can buy the individual piece and clamp it to your work to drill the pockets. The kit also include the square head/pan head screws....course for soft woods and fine for hard woods. The kit includes a clamping jig that you put your pieces in to hold still while you drill the pockets. It works nice when you have a bunch to do. It also comes with a face frame clamp that holds the work face perfectly in place while you drive the screws home.

A little but of glue and you have a perfect joint that you can handle immediately.

5. Nice work. I've used both pocket screw and biscuts.
Both are big time savers, especially the pocket screws. Kreg jig rules.

7. You did a great job! Wow! Wow! Wow!
I looked at the link you provided. That's a pretty cool tool. Did you get the K3?

Do you have a link to the biscuit joiner you used, too?
