my first attempt at "crafts" whadda ya think?
my step mom didn't want a present, when I insisted she thought she could use a door stop for her new sunroom as the door won't stay open

so I found this at the thrift store

and re-worked him.... whadda ya think? is he done? missing something? or good to go?

The metalic finish on the pole and stand -- the floral saddle and beaded reins! She'll be thrilled! Well done!

5. i'm hoping the roses match her upholstery. in her pics it looks like
it will

and since her room is white wicker and brass/gold it only seemed logical

I'll take some pics over Xmas when it's in place and post em

3. Your adaptation sure beats the original all to blazes
I like the eyes much better. The mane is so much prettier than that boa deal. And the metal paint makes it look like a real one on a carousel. This is an amazing transformation!

the EYES! :argh:

they were the biggest challenge, I'm not sure, but Mr Ketchup says they are fine so it's nice to get your approval too. they were a.... well you know...

8. pretty much, and getting both sides to be the same size and the
same spot......

:banghead:

and you only get one shot...

but they're good enough for a freaking door stop!!

we're shipping him in two boxes and glueing him to the base in LA. and adding some felt squares where the door will hit the crosspieces

it should hold the door OK hehehehehe

14. s'OK. it's not attached to the base yet, so we'll take it apart
and I have some cheapo styrofoam coolers that I will make slabs out of to go around the legs and the pole

then bubble wrap and "popcorn" within an inch of it's life. The glue gun goes in the box with the base for final assembly in Louisiana

from the hooves to the top of the pole is less than 3 feet so it will fit in a box fine

and SHE gets to take it out of the shipping box. If I'm feeling like a smart aleck, i'll stick a bow on the FedEx box

Looks like it will match the decor perfectly! I bet your MIL will never guess what it is, either.

I always wanted a pony for Christmas when I was little. Still do, actually. :sigh:

When you tackle something you've never tackled before and it turns out so well it does wonders for your psyche. Seeing your concept take shape and turn out so beautifully has been a blast for me. :)

29. i just re-read the other thread and it did come together just as I talked
about (sans ribbons which just looked too much)

I ended up dry brushing his gold hooves with the saddle brown and they came out great (and one less color paint to buy)
