Any suggestions on what these are worth?
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 03:26 PM by RaRa
Sorry, if this is the wrong forum. Marketplace doesn't seem right, since I can't price these. They were in the house when we moved in. Definitely not our style.

Anyway, I have two hanging lamps. Rather, one is a dining room chandelier like thing; brassish with candle-like lamps around it. The other consists of two cylindrical lamps made of heavy crystal/glass -I don't know what. They have gold chains that attach to each other and the ceiling (I know, my descriptions are a bit out there. Believe it or not the latter was in the master bath!)

I do have pictures, but don't think I can post them here.

1. I don't know.
If it were me, I'd look at my local Craigslist to try to find out what similar items are selling for. General or household category.

2. Sounds like the seventies!
Old swag lamps haven't come back into style yet, so they're probably not worth a whole lot.

My guess is that the 50s craze has another 6 years or so to run, then it'll be back to platform shoes, orange crushed velvet, and swag lamps with brass chains to go along with the revived disco music.

Until then, you'll just have to hope someone falls in love with 'em on Ebay, I think.

3. Hah! You hit the nail on the head!
This house was a near shrine to the 70s. Our kithchen has the dark wood cabinets and dark wood floor. To top that off, they had extra flooring, so they tacked it to one of the walls in the eating area. The opposing wall is brick (with a fireplace). It's like eating in a bat cave. We've redone most of the house, but since kitchens are out of our budget right now, we've got to live with it.

I'm sure you'll see many of those little gems. They sound early 70's when Spanish furniture was in. That was the garish red and dark wood shit that looked more "early Bordello" than anything any self-respecting Spaniard would admit to owning.

This was the same time when Blue Nun and Mateus were considered gourmet wines.

<edit for dab slepping> :)

5. That first lamp could be an old oil lamp; my dad's
honey has a couple that are antiques. She's electrified them, but they came from an old grocery story, I think. Pls. post pics if you can!

6. Update with link
Here's my craigslist link with photo. I actually got a potential buyer today, and she's asking for a price. I'm ready to ask $35 or $40. Is that too little or way too much? I have NO clue.

7. those are crystals on there?
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 06:43 PM by AZDemDist6
i don't think it's too much, did you research on ebay for a comparable lamp?

the crystals alone are worth a couple bucks each (or more depending) so count em up and go from there

if it's a swarovski crystal, you should get a couple hundred bucks

but if it's like this..... not so much

9. the ebay one is just a glass cylinder
and i really can't help on the crystal thing, but if it's crystal pendants they are worth at least a buck apiece if they are not plastic, so that gives you and idea where to start....

10. I gotta tell ya, that photo had me wishing
for a baseball bat. What the hell were they thinking 30 years ago? Oh, wait, everybody still had good drugs back then.

I shudder to describe the room I'm in: seafoam green wall to wall, 4 gold swivel rockers, a gold, cream and brown striped sofa (goes real well with that seafoam carpet) and knickknacks encrusting every surface.

Oh, and a multicolored crocheted afghan on the back of the couch in shades of white, brown, and orange.

Oy.
