Can anyone point me in the right direction? My elderly Mother (who can't knit any more) bought a <knitted> afghan kit several years ago from Herrschners. It's called "Amish Shadows". I have the yarn now and promised her I'd make it, but she lost the instruction book. I've googled myself silly... even Herrschners can't help (they don't carry it any more and won't tell me where I can find one). I'm willing to buy a whole kit just for the instructions... if I could find one. Any ideas?

2. Here's some tips if you haven't found it yet |
|
I would join a knitting mail list that looks pretty active. Perhaps a Yahoo group. And I would ask if anyone has the booklet of instructions. Knitters might help you find it. Let them know about how long ago your mom bought the kit. and make your Subject header very precise to catch the eye.
I used to belong to a vintage sewing machine group. People helped each other with copies of manuals all the time. So this idea came to mind first.
I just checked ebay but nothing turned up. I believe that ebay has a feature where you can insert what you're looking for and then you get notified if that item comes up for sale. Lots of crafting books are auctioned at ebay. That may turn out to be a good resource if knitting groups can't help.
I'm confident that you'll find this instruction book. Just fan out and try several knitting groups, yarn shops & auction sites and continue Googling from time to time. Good luck!

5. Let us know how it goes |

I got to checking out ebay some more. Seems like most people list a bunch of books and you have to look at the pictures. So maybe the Yahoo or other specialty groups will be easier. No matter what, you've got a nice bunch of yarn to make a large piece of work. Best of luck.
