1. Well, there's always the online versions of TV interior
desecration shows http://www.hgtv.com and http://www.tlc.com

You might also check the public library. Browsing some of the desecration books will let you figure out what your overall style is, then you can stick to it.

Mine is early cheap hotel with flashes of Mad King Ludwig. :silly:

2. hgtv.com has something...
called Designers' Portfolio. Look for the link on the right side of their home page as part of their "HGTV Toolbox" section.

You can browse and browse and browse through the portfolios until you find something you like, or you can have it show you particular rooms or particular styles of decorating or both. I found it helped me decide what my style was so that I could look up more specific info from other sources. I knew what I liked, but I had no idea what my style was called until I poked around the portfolio.

Good luck and remember to have fun. Your house should be a reflection of you.

3. To add to the tips...
There's a Home & Garden TV program called Designer's Challenge that looks very helpful. They take a room designed by an upscale designer and recreate that room using items that cost a lot less. But they still create the ambiance of the original room. I'd like to get some new bedroom furniture this year and plan on using this concept. If I like a bedroom that's decorated beyond my buget, I'm going to find things that are a good fit using newly purchased pieces and my own stuff from around the house.

One more thing - Cut out pictures from magazines and start a folder for yourself. After a while, you'll see a theme emerging and know what sort of decor you like. You can cut out pictures of flowers, clothing, rooms, museum images, architecture. Just anything that strikes you as pleasing. Your style will emerge and make a lot of sense. But heaven help you if your an eclectic like me!
