So, I find myself in the midst of an escalating project . . .
I had grand intentions of taking my old cast iron sink out, refinishing it, and redoing the laminate on the counter. Cheap, easy makeover, right? Not so much

The sink wasn't as easy to get out. It has some weird metal rim that got destroyed (I'm sure we'll not find another). The wood underneath the laminate was slightly rotten. So there I was with no sink and no counter top and I thought to myself "well of course, we'll replace the cabinets. So off the to store. We managed to pick a combo of ready made cabinets that were just about the same length. Put those puppies together, every thing's going great. Get to the end and there's that "just about the same length" which will require the linoleum and the tile on the wall to be cut. After a few more trips to the store and much cussing, the cabinets are in, the tile and floor cut. The old plumbing is of course not going in as expected - new faucet leaking. No sink, no counter.

And tomorrow, my bathroom renovation begins (by professionals thankfully), so we'll be really out of commission.

Oh, the joys of homeownership.

1. You're better off replacing that sink
because those stupid rings are never replaceable. I know, I did my counters 8 years ago and had to throw out the old cast iron sink because it had that stupid rim. A new cast iron sink wasn't expensive, though, and I got over it fast because it's a whole lot more attractive than the old one.

2. Yeah, I'm having trouble finding an in stock sink that works
I need a drop in with no holes (the faucet is on the wall). There's a stainless steel undermount that will probably work ok as a drop in.

3. Well, you could modify your counter plans and go all the way
to the latest fad, the farmhouse apron sink. I've seen quite a few of those that worked with wall mounted hardware. Check specialty dealers online to find out who makes it. Most plumbing places will special order, but it's going to be more expensive than having that plumbing in the normal place.
