wall and ceiling texture, how Ollie HOW?
we had to repair our ceiling in the kitchen after a broken pipe leak. we have laid in tape and joint compound and it looks good, now how do we get the texture back up there?

I know they make both spray textures and stuff you can add to paint. any suggestions? it's an area about 6" wide and 3.5 feet long

1. One way is to
Thin the taping compound ("mud") with water to the consistency of pancake batter and apply with a coarse (long nap) texture roller.

Depends on the texture you are trying to match. Sometimes, after the texture is applied and slightly set up, a flat mud knife is lightly dragged over the high spots to knock off/smooth the tops of the texture. Depends on what you want to match.

2. Repairing it also depends on how much you like that texture
The big push today is to get the cottage cheese off the ceilings, something that is messy but easily accomplished with a big bucket of water, a large walpaper smoother, and an aching back. Oh, and lots of plastic over everything to catch the glop as it falls.

Other than that, thinning joint compound, putting it up and pulling it with a sponge for a slim joint would probably work. You'll know where the patch is but nobody else will.

3. luckily it's not the "popcorn" ceiling, more a plaster look
appears they sprayed it on and then knocked it down a bit

We got it at Lowes and it worked awesome, it's REALLY messy so you'll want to carefully drape anything and everything!

5. NEATO!
I have used it before, and it worked great, too. Depends on the texture you are tying to match.

Seems that a lot of homes in Arizona use a semi-gloss paint EVERYWHERE. A flat ceiling paint would help disguise the patch.

6. we had just finished painting the kitchen when a pipe burst in the attic
and yes it's a nice flat white on the ceiling. we have the Kilz done and need to pick up a quart of the paint to match so it'll be all done this after noon
