Kitchen color choice

Re: my escalating project. I have black and white checker flooring and black and white tile on the walls. What color counter would you use? I think white will be too white. I'm choosing from the standard lowes/home depot colors. I was thinking the dark grayish color.

2. i'd go for black myself although i'd love red, i love that look.

My Nana always had a red tea kettle on her stove, she always told me every kitchen should have one red thing--i dunno why she feels that way but ever since i've had a home i've always had a red kettle as well.

I'd go for the red or even a hotter color .... orange.

And I'm with you, btw. Red was my first thought, too. Whenever I make the safe color choices, it never fails to disappoint me. When everyone told me to get the almond sink, I knew I shoulda gotten the red one. Someday I will!

3. Dark grey will work

but what color are your cabinets? If the cabinets are white, a taxicab yellow or bright screaming red or any primary color, for that matter, will work beautifully. If the cabinets are wood, then go with the grey.

If the cabinets are white and you go with a primary color, consider removing the hardware and spray painting it the same color. If you go with the grey, consider brushed nickel hardware.

6. Update: I got the gray.

No bright colors. The cabinets are white. Actually, the old cabinets were red for the bases and white for the wall cabinets. It looked pretty good. But I am excited to have new cabinets with real shelves, doors that aren't warped and actually close.

I'll post pics when we're done.

9. Getting into this discussion a little late.

I had an identical kitchen in my old house. Black and white checkerboard floors, white cabinets and a black and white tile backsplash. I went with a medium gray on the walls. White was too stark, back was too dark. The gray worked perfectly. But it sounds like you already made that decision :)
