PVC fence
Has anyone had a experience with pvc fencing in cold climate. I live in Alaska and am thinking of putting in this type of fence across our backyard to replace old wire fencing. I kinda would like to know if it will get brittle and break in the freezing weather we have...BTW I really like this site.

1. My brother has one here in Chicago and he loves it.
It USED to be cold in Chicago.

2. They stand up to severe weather very well!
They are good looking, but expensive. They never need maintenance (repainting) and don't rot.

3. PVC fencing does get brittle.........
in VERY cold weather. However, it is very attractive and easy to maintain. Being in Pennsylvania, I have installed a few of them and my customers love it but, Pennsylvania is not Alaska.

As far as the cost difference between PVC and traditional wood, the ease of installation and maintenance make up for the cost difference.

Your brother may want to consider composite fencing. It is a wood/plastic composite. It cuts and nails/screws like wood but, wears and weathers like PVC, but is not brittle. It is comparable in cost to PVC fencing.

Hope this helps.
