Anyone here have an electric lawnmower?
My lawnmower was stolen a year and a half or so ago. Last summer, I paid the neighbor kid to mow. I think I will buy one to use this year. I was looking at a cordless electric model, because I hate having to get gas, but wouldn't want to use one with a cord either.

I was looking at this one: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=227685-53393-25053&lpage=none

It is about $100 more than what I would spend on a gas-powered mower, so I have been debating whether or not it is worth it.

Any input?

1. I had one with a cord many years ago
and other than needing to plan the mowing pattern so I wouldn't run over the cord, it was a breeze to use. It doesn't have as much power as a gas mower, so you do need to cut the grass before it gets knee high, but it does a great job.

I would much rather work on electric motors than gas, the mower was relatively silent, and I loved not smelling all those unburnt hydrocarbons. All I could smell was new mown grass, and it was lovely.

2. we have a corded one and it's great! ours is over 8 years old and
has never given us a problem even sitting out in the Arizona summers all these years. My concern on a cordless unit would be how big an area do you need to cover? IIRC they only will mow a very small area before the batteries die on you AND the batteries will add considerable weight to the unit which I would also consider

as Warpy said, the cord isn't that big a deal you just need a plan and if there is a problem area they make "cord keeper" stake thingies to help with that

also if your grass is often wet when you need to mow, that's a problem too. here's a Sunset article on cordless mowers

or you could just go fully auto with the Robotic mower
