It's costing a bundle but then, the old one was 26 years old. It's amazing that it lasted this long.

I'm going from 2SEER to 13SEER on the AC side and from 0 SEER to something better on the furnace side. I'm excited -- but going to be very broke for a while.

and installed a 14SEER Trane it was amazing and our bill dropped a LOT!

2. Someone told me SEER was hooey

that it was just something dreamed up by the energy companies. I think it's a way to compare efficiency -- aside from that, I have no clue what it means.

The installer said that I could expect a 5% drop in my electric bill for each SEER of improvement -- that's over 50%! I look forward to that. It will pay for itself in a few years if that's the case -- and it will be so much quieter!

The blast of air is unlike anything this house has felt for many years. It's simply fabulous. Now I've got to write the freaking check!

5. Did you get any state or federal rebates/credits for your energy

efficient upgrade? I only ask, because I screwed myself out of a good amount of money not checking into the rebates/credits etc.

I know they are available but I need to look up the paperwork. Hopefully that will take some of the sting out of this.

7. I know you don't live in NJ, but we have a site that lists state

rebates, but also links to the federal (you could use that to get to the federal page).
