I came by an 8"x12"x.1" little wooden art project some one did. It's the cutout silhouette of a farm with a little girl swinging on a rope swing suspended from a tree--braids flying in the wind. The sky area is the portion that is cut out. It's very delightful, but whoever did this put a stain on it and didn't really do a finish. I'd like to sand the stain off, but I want to use this little scene in some other way. It so reminds me of the silhouettes on glass miniatures pictures that used to hang in my grandmother's house. I've thought of painting it black and backing it up with a board in another color and framing it somehow. I've also considered using it under plexiglass, painted and backed and framed with some sort of decoratively routed wood as a tray. I think it might be cool laquered too but don't know how to go about this so it would hold up. I'm stuck because I can't get beyond any color but black for the silhouette itself.
Any ideas that a novice can try for this.
