we finally gave up and finished the kitchen drawers ourselves

as usual, Mr K did a great job!

to recap, we don't have any decent drawers in the kitchen and Husb2Sparkly came up with an idea to put a drawer unit under the espresso machine. we got a guy to knock us up some drawers, but he didn't finish the fronts. we called him several times last week with no response, so today DH used some of the many cabinet doors we removed to make us some.

we started thinking we'd use the cabinet pulls but I remembered I saved the drawer pulls from an old desk we left in PHX

so here's the final pics and what's great is my big utensils fit in one drawer and our silverware and serving stuff in the other

Mr. K has gone from "I dunno if I can do that" to "Let me give it a try" with great results! :bounce:





edit to add, one of the bonus' was that there is space on both sides that hold my jelly roll pans on one side and my flat cutting boards on the other :woohoo:

You are so lucky, that is a gorgeous result.

I am feeling happy today because my handyguy finally got a day off and is finishing painting the portale, fixing the busted light support in the garage, and hanging the old busted heated towel rack in the laundry room for a drying rack. We also got in a run to Lowe's for compost and MAYBE we'll get the second-stage sheet-mulching started!

2. great! isn't you yard awfully wet? we were gonna start working in the

fences today, but it's a freaking bog out there.

poor DH, after we had the drawer fronts all mounted and centered, I asked him to shim out the drawer hardware (the goof head in town made the drawers just *That* much too narrow so the runners don't seat the wheels well)

but we managed to get them re-centered enough and it's just great to have real pulls instead of a screw just sticking out

7. Yard's not too wet...

...since our drainage is decent except for a minor ponding issue in the middle. It doesn't affect the house or any planted areas so I'm waiting to fix that. The first-stage sheet mulching is composting practically before my eyes, with all the rain, and it should make for a loverly start on second-stage, especially if we continue to get 3x-4x a week rains for a couple of weeks after we have it down. Cross fingers!

I'm always wary of drawer projects for precisely that reason-- one time I took a drawer out of a complicated desk to change out the pull, and had trouble getting it back in and it never did work exactly right.

Gotta question ....... can you access the hoppers on the Saeco? Also, I assume you don't use the warmer for cups?

4. we use big cups for quad Americanos. the water unit comes out the

side fine. for beans we slide that corner out until the hopper is free and pour from there.


we put 4 mini "magic movers" on the feet so it slides around in there easily, but luckily the weight of the machine holds it fine with one foot hanging while we add beans.

there is room up there to put espresso cups if I want them and it's quite a bit higher than the front fascia suggests in there. we've had the drawer unit for about three weeks with no fronts so we've lived with it for a while and it's working fine

5. That was my thought, too

that the Saeco was going to have to be evicted eventually and moved to a space on the counter with a little more head room. It might get too hot for that cabinet right above it.

6. the cabinet above it is fine, the cabinet area with the coffee unit does

stay warm, but there's nothing in there it can hurt. I keep dry goods above it and they aren't getting warm at all

8. Our Saeco has a bit more headroom than hers does, and we keep cups on top

with the warmer plate on all the time. It gets warm in the cabinet above, but not alarmingly so ..... maybe ... I dunno .... 85° or 90°. I'm sure its even lower without the warmer plate on.

I have a BIG steamer trunk and a smaller "footlocker" trunk, both are black with the brass corners and they are moving into the guest room as coffee tables and storage for my many comforters.

once they are out of the shed, we can build our big industrial steel shelves in there and organize what's left

Comforters take up so much space. A trunk is the perfect solution. I started hanging blankets on hangers and put them in the spare room closet. I hang off-season clothing in there so it was logical to hang blankets in there for the Summer.

BTW, found a mobile home I would like to buy. It is a 28x48 in a park with affordable rent. It backs woods with a brook running through.

Apparently, it was rented out previously, and the tenants trashed it. The owner had to replace flooring, the entire kitchen, carpeting, and paint. Consequently, there is NO wallpaper throughout the home!

There are a few issues. There is a strange smell, and there is some mold on the guest bathroom ceiling, and, water stains from when the kitchen plumbing leaked (since replaced).

I am having a home inspector inspect it on Wednesday before I make an offer. I like it so much, and I think problems are not beyond repair. The owner is amenable to working with me.

It is only a few thousand more than the single-wide I looked at, and it is much bigger. Also, the lot it is on is bigger. It seems very roomy, and the third bedroom will work quite nicely for guest/TV/computer room.

Anyway, here is the floor plan. It is reversed from the pic.

It is New Moon - RM NM 2852 17.

The kitchen is absolutely huge, and this home has sliders in the kitchen opening to the wrap-around deck. The master bath does not have a separate shower, but, the garden tub has a shower. I may think about replacing it like you did in the future, but, for now, it will be ok I think.

I am pretty excited, and hope that the inspection won't show anything too horrible to deal with.

15. get it inspected for sure. a biggie is to make sure the "belly" fabric

is intact. otherwise the mold will creep up from underneath

the floor plan is wonderful though!

my house was all about location location location. my DH loves astronomy and we choose our house based on where his telescope would have the best views

I loved NM...once I got used to the starkness and lack of green. The sky is enormous, and I can understand why you DH would want to be there to view that beautiful sky.

Not sure what you mean by "belly fabric is instact", but, my gut tells me that it is...the owner has gone through contortions to restore this very nice 1994 home.

I don't understand the tenants he had. I currently rent, and I have two young cats (boys). We had an issue where the younger one (Jake) tore some carpet along a seam between one bedroom and the hallway. What I have done is to notify the management, and, I have asked that they please fix this and I will pay.

What makes people so disrespectful of other's properties? I can't relate.
