Is there a good, active message board for crocheting?
I'm not opposed to knitting, either ;) -- I hope to relearn how to do it some day. But I find myself really getting into crocheting and would like to try things besides afghans. In fact, if this predicted ice storm doesn't materialize today, I'm supposed to go yarn shopping with my daughter to buy yarn to make wraps for her wedding -- the bride, two bridesmaids (my other two daughters,) and myself. It will be an outdoor wedding in February in Texas -- it could be 80 degrees or 30 degrees! I can't wait to get started! I've never crocheted with the eyelash yarn (fake fur) before.

I love chatting with y'all but I'd like to find a board that is more actively focused on yarn crafts. Thanks! :hi:

1. Not sure

Have you ever crocheted doilies? That will keep you busy and perhaps challenge you a bit more.

If you find a board, could you please post the link....I'd be interested also.

Cheers

2. I have a doily kit but haven't started them yet.
I have an afghan to finish and then the stoles. However, I just found out that my college is closed tomorrow due to the ice storm so I may have time to finish the afghan once I revise my syllabus to reflect the cancelled class. :)

I'll be sure to let you know if I find anything.

3. This one looks promising:

It looks pretty active, anyway. I'll check it out some more in the next few weeks. For now, I've got to get cracking on that afghan! :)

4. The forum you found looks great!
I wish that crafts didn't get put in with the diy endeavors. Nobody here has made me feel this way - but I just feel off notch posting pictures of my small crafting projects. This seems more like a place for a different sort of house and garden projects.

Btw, I've crocheted since I was little. It's been a while since I did it. In fact, I have a half-done afghan somewhere around here!

5. I looked around there again today and registered.
There's a lot of information and enthusiasm anyway.

I agree that crafts could easily be a separate group. It's a far cry from remodeling your bathroom to crocheting a doily. ;)

We were able to get a separate group for weight loss via exercise. While many people who are losing weight also exercise, those two groups represent an intersection. Neither group is completely a subset of the other (sorry, I teach math! ;)) Skinner agreed and allowed it.

Do you think we should push for a craft group? :hi:

6. Ooooh, look at the pattern I found to wear at my daughter's wedding!

I ordered the yarn just as it is made in the picture. My dress is lilac and I'm wearing champagne shoes and opera-length gloves so I think those colors will look great! I can't wait for it to get here! Hopefully, I'll be able to get out and buy the yarn for the bride's and bridesmaid's wraps and get those started. They're more important and also simpler patterns.

9. How pretty!
Looks like the trim is eyelash yarn. So soft. With the open pattern, it should be comfortable in just about any weather. I think you'll enjoy crocheting this for the occasion. It's perfect for a wedding!

7. Let's do it
I'm more comfortable just posting house related topics here.

Do we need to post something in GD to get started? I'm happy to do it. But I'm not sure of the procedure. I helped get a frugal forum going but I think that was before a more formal procedure was put in place. And do we need to ask around privately first? I mean to let people know that we're going to post a thread somewhere so it doesn't get lost.

8. I've started a couple of groups.
The lounge and here and in any other related groups may be the best places to post. But we might want to contact Skinner first since we would be breaking off from an existing group so the name would be changed on this group. How about we post a new thread here to get some feedback on the interest level of splitting the groups and catch the attention of the other crafters? I envision such a group including all kinds of crafts, including sewing, needlework, crochet, knitting, paper, etc. What do you think?

11. Count me in

I rarely check in here as it is mostly DIY.

I would love a crafts only forum.

Cheers

We're figuring out how to get things rolling and will get back to the group very soon. Thanks so much for jumping in!

14. I just wanted to add:
The eyelash yarn is just soooo much fun. I do a lot of scarves and hats, and a coworker wanted a scarf with this eyelash added to it. It's strange to work with a first, well it's different, but it turns out just so nice.

Oh and that pattern you found looks very nice. :)

15. What about the guild, CGOA?
Those people know how to party. I can't wait for Manchester this next summer. :)

16. Another forum
This one is primarily knitting -- and WHAT a resource it is, too -- but it has a forum for crochet as well and no one there treats crochet like the unwanted stepchild.

Can't wait for our Crafts forum. This one really IS DIY, isn't it?
