free retainer wall solution - thought I'd share
We have a large berm in our backyard that we wanted to retain. Went to the Home Depot and not only do I not like those conrete retainer wall "blocks" but they cost a boatload. So, my neighbor recently broke up a concrete patio around his pool and was loading the stuff up for the dump. The stuff breaks up in irregular shaped, but generally geometric chunks. We took the entire pile and dry stacked them like stone. The facing out side is flush, the side that will be filled with dirt as we build up the birm is not flush but who cares! you won't ever see it. It looks wonderful...and it's recycled...and FREE!

We plan to morter nice looking cap stones to the top. maybe...someday.
