Painting a garage floor?

I heard that the technique of painting a garage floor with the speckly dots can result in a floor that's dangerous when wet.

Any thoughts or experience with the safety issues?

1. Sprinkle sand on the surface of the floor while still wet

The sand will ensure a non-stick surface.

What do you intend to use to 'paint' the floor? Paint? Poly? Epoxy?

2. I think epoxy paint is what's supposed to be used

We're not doing this ourselves. Our garage is being built for us and we're not going to tackle the floor, either. From what I've read I think epoxy paint is supposed to be used to paint garage floors. But I'll check with the contractor. Too bad he just left. We had a meeting to talk about what they're doing the rest of the week. It's looking good so far. Framing is up and roof sheets are on. Next is plumbing. Yup, it's going to have a toidy.

3. A toidy!?!?!?!?!?!? I'm calling HGTV's Luxury Garage police to report you!

My son worked for a contractor who did those floors for (mostly) commercial and (some) residential clients. They used an epoxy as their base (they got it from Sherwin Williams). They had three or four colors, thats it. The color chips were an option. Every job was topped with a generous sprinkle of sharp sand on the wet topcoat.

From what we've read, we just don't want to tackle it as it's tricky. I could put a mat next to my car, one long enough to get to the door in safety. Who knows, hubby might want me to do that for his precious floor anyway. :D

We were surprised when the city let us have a toidy. I would have been thrilled just to have a work sink out there. But we can have both. When he's mucking around outside with the irrigation ditch and such, he won't have to come into the house and take off the work shoes. I have a work sink in the house by my laundry. After we had it installed we didn't know how we did without it. But with one in the garage, it's going to be super convenient.

They'll be carrying me off this place feet first.
