Can you vent two dryers through the same vent?
I know it sounds crazy...but Mr. B and I replaced our washing machine...(it was about 13 years old)...

We decided to get a better dryer as well and I wouldn't mind keeping both...but if I can't vent them both through the same hole...then I don't feel like creating another breach in our wall to create another vent...

1. Google is your friend
Basically, the answer is "No!"
It can create a fire hazard.

Also, when I talk with my son tonight or tomorrow, will specifically ask him about this, and will get back to you.
He owns and runs a home appliance repair business, and am sure he will be able to give the definitive answer to your question.
(Plus, I think, per building and safety code, it is not allowed. So, should you do this, and problem resulted that would cause you to have to contact your homeowner's insurance, you may be up a creek in monetary recovery)

4. My son says, "No. Don't do it!"

and for all the reasons stated re: lint fire, etc., and a second vent must be put in place, and to watch for hose crimping on both so as not to result in blowback, lint, and moisture trapping.

Also says, that if the dryers are electric, you have to get an additional 220 plug put in by an electrician, as well as breaker box update for that new voltage addition. And if gas, you must have someone who is qualified to create the new gas access line, as well as separate line load on the 110 wall plug, or to make sure that an electrician checks out the regular wall socket to determine if the line can handle the pull of both dryers at once...no messing with gas or electric should you decide to install second dryer..says do it right the first time.

3. I posted this to my favorite plumbing site when I saw you had no answers.

The general consensus is: no - bad idea.

These guys are professional plumbers. This site is a good resource for plumbing related questions.

I gather you are not talking about a long stretch of pipe, which would be inaequate for 2 dryers. Even so, combining them at any point you run the risk that one will overpower the other and backflow, resulting in lint buildup , very poor airflow on the one, long drying times, increased energy cost, and shorter lifespan on the dryer.

You can't combind 2 dryers in the same exaust period.

Generally speaking, no.

I've seen it done in small apartment house laundry rooms but the exhaust pipe size and fitting size were increased at the connection of where the two joined together, besides the fact that the dryers were probably designed differently compared to plain residential dryers.

In other words, more than likely it would be less complicated for you to provide a second hole through the wall for the additional dryer.

6. They do make 6" or 8" exhaust pipe for range hood applications
I would think that if each dryer output had some sort of damper, this would work. However, that means that the homeowner needs to put a bigger hole in the house for the exhaust.

Might I suggest that the homeowner just tumble the load for about ten minutes and then hang the garments on hangars to finish drying? I put them on the line in the summer and by a box fan in the winter. I do that to avoid shrinkage.
