Cental air unit and frosting
So my house seems to be leaking all over the past couple of days. Yesterday the dishwasher didn't empty and the guy came and got that fixed until I did the dishes this am and there was a flood all over the kitchen (wood) floor. He came back and that seems to be working. This afternoon the thermostat was flashing 'change filter' and my son went down to change the filter and next thing he's yellin' upstairs, 'Mom you better see this'. Frost on the top of the unit and water all over the top of the furnace. The filter didn't look that bad, you could still see through it but it was wet from the dripping. I called the service and they said it was the filter, change it and see if it works, if it doesn't call them in the am. This was about 5 this afternoon. Just went down to check it again and the top of the unit is still real cold and sweating. I was wondering if I should even turn it on, should it stay that cold? Could there be some kind of refrigerant leak?

1. AC units can freeze up if the filter is too dirty, I think.
We subleased an apt this summer that had this problem. We were instructed to turn off the AC, but let the circulation fan run all day in order to de-ice. As it turned out, there was more wrong with the AC than just a dirty filter and a frozen unit, but those problems were legit and the advice was real.

My mom in Phx also had her unit freeze up completely because of a dirty filter. She thought it was clean enough, but the repairman scolded her.

2. Thanks Dora
It seems to be 'defrosted' but I'm waiting to try it till tomorrow. It's just been one thing after another and I need a day without seeing a repair man or a car dealer!
It's a new CAC installed in June so hopefully if something is wrong it will be covered. It was hit by lightning in July and needed a part so hope it isn't jinxed.

3. It was the coil
it was replaced this afternoon. It was the wrong size, too narrow and so that caused it to burst.
The dishwasher seems to working now too but there was a huge puddle just now under the sink and I didn't even use the dishwasher today, it was on the other side, the sink seems to be leaking from the pipe that goes to the sink drain. The inside of the cabinet is all sunken and the wood floors in that part of the kitchen which were getting better are worse now. I'm going to have to call a plumber tomorrow and see what this is from. Just when I thought things were all fixed.
