Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams? And, why?

1. I only shelled out for Sherwin Williams once

and that's just because I conned my landlord into paying for it if I did the painting. It was good paint. It covered better than cheap paint but wasn't much more durable when I had to wash it. It did have the possibility of a mildewcide added to it, though, and that's why I stuck the landlord for premium stuff. It didn't mildew, I'll say that for it.

9. it's an additive and you have to ask for it

or you won't get it. It's not in there unless you pay to get it put in there.

It's great for bathrooms in humid climates.

No need to get it mixed special. Its a semigloss with mildewicide.

11. Many paints have the fungicide already mixed in so you don't have to buy the "mustard" packets.

Fungicide is especially needed on oil based paints.

2. I know you didn't ask but if you can stand the thought of going

to Home Depot, the Behr Brand they carry has repeatedly come out on top in the tests run by Consumer Reports. I am an oil based paint fan but that type of paint is being phased out. Behr is latex acrylic. Pretty good at covering, easy to clean. We have been pleased. Specials frequently at under $20.00 a gallon.

Have used Benj. Moore too and it is fine but is now over $30.00 a gallon around these parts. It will wash up fairly well. No S. Williams near enough to us to buy their paint.

7. I recently heard the faux painter say that Behr was good. I was leaning to

Benjamin Moore because of their Classic Colors palette. But, I saw some rooms on the SW website that I liked. If I was a good embedding images as some are, I'd put the link to that dinning room (sponging technique.)

13. I get Behr, but I have them mix the custom color formula...

... that I like the best, even if it's a Ralph Lauren, M Stewart, or SW.

The guys at Home Depot can mix any formula into the Behr base paint.

Much cheaper and more durable, IMO.

14. I used Behr the last time I painted the interior of my rental...

It did not cover well, was splotchy, and although cheap, it created extra work.
Also ended up using some SW, and it covered much better on the interior with less labor.

Used B. Moore for the exterior and am very pleased at the colors and the way it is holding up.

3. I have always had good results with Sherwin-Williams, especially "Superpaint"

Interior or exterior. The dealers are everywhere around Cleveland. SW is regarded as a good company to work for.

4. Sherwin Williams ...... for a variety of reasons

Its good paint

I hate Home Depot

SW is an old American company still doing hat it has always done, and is supposed to be a good company to work for

We get a discount there

They have a LOT of special purpose paints. We use their antimildew ceiling paints in all our bathrooms. Their better paints hold up well in rental properties.

12. I've painted w/both--Sherwin Wms. is good, and B.Moore is nice because

it has a low tendency to spatter while being applied. I'd say B.Moore is a bit easier to work with, and has a large palette to choose from, but Sherwin Williams is cheaper, and a great value for the money. I didn't know all that about it's being a good company, etc. That's a bit of extra incentive right there!

15. thanks for the information. I really do like the Benjamin Moore palette. The

S/W store that I went to had one for those customers who want the Benjamin Moore color, but with S/W paint. What I LOVED about the B. Moore palette that the S/W store had was it had chips with numbers instead of names. This way, you can concentrate on the color and not be biased because of the name. With the S/W palette, I try to fan it out in such a why to see the color ranges without influence of the name.

I bet people are using the Benjamin Moore color selection and then going to S/W to get the paint cheaper.

S/W v. B. Moore is a lot like trying to pick between Obama and Hillary. 16. I much prefer BM to SW.

I also love Restoration HW, and I think that is also BM.

ETA: Our builder put SW in as standard - it's HORRIBLE. I call it chalk paint. Can't clean it, and it rubs off. We put BM & RH over it.

18. We drive past that house all the time. It does look terrible. However, I generally love BM paint.

We've painted several different colors in our house. They have great reds.

I could have gotten a discount with SW paints, I went with BM's Aura/Affinity paint/hues.

What they are doing with latex paint these days is pretty amazing.
My compressor as a contractor does not like sherwin Willams. And I really don,t like Ben Moore.That,s my opinion some agree and others disagreee. Disagree with me about S.W. and you find yourself another contractor.

About paint ,I think it,s about keeping up with the changes,like I said it keeps getting better but major brands don,t or are reluctent to change how they make paint. This means some major brands must lie about the quality of their product.Or the corperation is sold and the new ownners change in a very cheap way what goes into the product. Bhear paints and stains at one point were the very top of the line ,the best you can get, but than Bhear sold and it became rock buttom at a premium price.Ofcourse consumers did not know what they were buying. Bhear was sued many many times by angry home ownners and very many contractors.

Consummer reports -will tell you who has the best paint and why.If you are really in to it, check it out!My compressor likes American Tradition. It held a number one rating for a few years in a row. It,s about twenty five dollars per gallon or $105.00 in a five gallon bucket.
