Wha-a-a-a, my dishwasher is on the fritz
2 1/2 years old and the Bosch could be fried. But we have a contract and if they can't fix it we get a new one.

It was halfway through the cycle when hubby walked into the kitchen to see the dw panel flashing accompanied by an electrical odor. So, he opened the door, shut it off and then unplugged it. Repair is scheduled for the 25th. So maybe it's an electrical problem in the panel.

As I said to the service rep, at least it wasn't the washing machine to which she replied "That would be traumatic!". Agreed.

Doing dishes for two isn't so bad and it'll be an excuse to go out for some meals. And if it goes south I may switch to a white one. I want my new appliances to be white, so it would all work out.

.... warranty expires in August, so we're still safe. They have been here three times so far and it still isn't fixed. They keep ordering new parts to slap on it.

Does no one actually fix things these days?

By the way, the service is coming from an outfit named A&E Factory Service, which, it turns out is owned by Sears/K-Mart. Their attitude and level of costumer care is ABYSMAL.

I wish our usual service guy were factory authorized, but alas, no factories use little guys any more.

I hope our experience is better. Yipes. You've been without a dw for a while.

I just read the protection agreement and it says they can try to repair it four times before making a replacement. At that point they'll issue a replacement or refund the total price. We'll see.

8. Eventually, you might want to hire the indie guy
if he's good at finding the actual problem and fixing it. The money you pay him will be worth the aggravation of getting the KitchenAid Buttcrack back time after time and still having the problem.

That's how I feel about it and what I do about it. I also submit the bill to the manufacturer and suggest they find competent help.

Once in a blue moon, the manufacturer will pick up the tab. My nasty letters are legendary.

9. It finally was fixed on Saturday
The guy that came was the same one who was here first.

He's a moron.

But he slapped the right part in there and it is running.

They replaced four parts ...... the push button panel that you push to tell the machine what to do. The actual buttons that underlie the pushbutton panel. The ribbon cable that connects the actual button assembly to the logic board. The logic board.

The last part to be replaced was the ribbon cable .... which probably has a value of a buckannahaff. That was the problem.

Were the guy who diagnosed the problem not a moron, he would have figured that out and saved his company money and saved me (the customer) time.

But no ........ better we have non union morons working for cheap.

The company name, by the way, is A & E Factory Services. They were formerly the Sears repair guys. Sears spun them off as a separate company, but still owns them. They service all Kenmore stuff and most everyone else's stuff too ...... except maybe Maytag, since they still have the repairman guy on teevee and are actually owned by Electrolux.

6. A friend told me something tonight
She said she had the very same thing happen as mine. The repair guy said the computers in the machines these days aren't always sealed well enough to keep the steam from making contact. And when that happens, the computer goes on the fritz.

10. Our1.5 year old Miele had an issue the day before Thanksgiving...
it was a plugged drain AND using the wrong type of soap (however, if my husband had sprung for the garbage disposal when we purchased the dishwasher, LIKE I'D SUGGESTED, it wouldn't have happened), that took my husband 4 days and two calls to the service center to figure out. Because of course, it was a long holiday weekend, we didn't want to have to pay for the service call. With two young children, who firmly believe that every time they need a snack, it requires a brand new dish, I was pretty happy once it was fixed.
