New wall treatments
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 01:46 AM by Dover
I'm redoing bathroom and livingroom walls and have been looking for something unique that would go easily over sheetrock walls (and possibly ceilings too), and in the case of the bathroom, is durable and resistant to moisture.

Thought I'd share a few that I came across at a green building expo I attended.

American Clay

These colors and textures were beautiful and in their demo wall they even incorporated a very subtle pattern into the wall by placing a stencil over the finished (but not quite dry) clay wall and filling it with more of the clay mix and then blending it in which gave it a very old and subtle appearance.

Japanese Wall

My favorite and lots of variety. This one is called 'Ayaka'. Order the brochure and ask for samples!
US retailer is Mardero,LLC in California - http://www.mardero.com

Shizen
Modern Masters - 'Shizen' (cork, stone, seashell, etc. textures similar to Japanese Wall products)

1. Thx for posting this, I too have been wanting to redo my walls
I remember hearing about this company from ALL the Green shows on TV that I try to watch, but forgot to check out their website.

When checking to see where they sell their products, I came across a place very close to where I live. There was a website for them, lucky me. http://www.goinggreenusa.net/

I discovered while there, that there is a program called "Green Collar Vets" a non profit for veterans to find places of employment.

http://www.greencollarvets.org/

Here is their mission statement:

Our goal is to make sure that those men and women who have served our country and who are now interested in careers that lessen our dependence on oil, or lessen the impact of toxins in our environment, have a guiding hand to find that job - and the additional support to be successful in it. The end result will ensure a competent, professional workforce for the installation, operation and maintenance of green products and services across the country.

Green Collar Vets is a nationwide organization that promotes operations at a grass roots level. We believe in the power of local communities to support their own veterans' needs and opportunities, as well as their local emerging Green industries.

GREEN INDUSTRY OPPORTUNITIES

Solar & Wind Industries
Geothermal Heat Pumps
Radiant Heating Systems
Rainwater Harvesting
Energy Efficiency Products & Retrofits

Green Building & Renovations
Materials Reuse & Recycling
Cool Roof Systems
Home Energy Audits

Water Use Efficiency and Conservation
Organic Food Production
Structurally Insulated Panels
Green Landscaping & Xeriscaping
Sustainable Community & Transportation Planning

I think this is an excellent idea for returning vets. It would seem to give them a new lease on life.
If you know of vets who can benefit from this program and by all means let them know about this.

Sounds like a wonderful program. I hope they get off the ground and there are enough jobs available.

3. Well, I just inquired about the price of the Japanese Wall products..
and they are...ahem....expensive. I should have guessed that.
Here's the info I got:

For Ayaka series (shown above), it comes in pre-mixed liquid form. Each can/bucket
can cover approximately 110 ~ 125 sq. ft. (that's 2 coats).
You can either spray or trowel it on to the wall.

The retail price for each Ayaka series can/bucket is $269.99 per can
for our stocked products. The wholesaler price would be $210 if order
10 can or more for each color.

For any other series, such as Wabi, Kyoto, Kaitei and many others, they come in
dry-form. They are packaged in small 12~ LB bag. It requires a
little more mixing than the Ayaka series. Each bag can cover approxiately
30~35 sq. ft. Depending on the series, the retail price range is from
$75 to $95. The wholesaler price vary depending on volume. If it is
30 bags or more, the sale price range is from $50 ~ $75.
